"Namaste" and "He's Our You" both delved into the world of the Dharma Initiative circa 1977. We got to see Sawyer, Juliet, Jin, Miles and now Kate, Jack and Hurley become part of the happy island colony. This is what we have been waiting for this entire season. The return to the island and the story of the reunited Losties has been told to us, to very mixed results. The SWLS members rated "Namaste" with a 7.71 rating and a "He's Our You" as a 7.08. These are very low ratings for a Lost episodes. Continue after the break to see what our members had to say about these episodes.
I have been disappointed with the Dharma Initiative story told to this point. We have spent ten episodes trying to get the Oceanic 5 back to the island. Since Jack and company have made back to Craphole Island the story has slowed to a crawl. Mrs. Alpert "agrees with Ladybug and JB. There just isn't anything to talk about this week." Lovinlost found it "set up type week". Sauget.diblosio agrees and took it a step farther. I "think everyone's right-- this is a bit of a set-up for the rest of the season, but haven't we had a few of those now?" I believe this is part of the problem. "Namaste" felt like a set up episode, but then it was followed up with another set up episode in "He's Our You".
Mrs. Alpert liked the way the episode echoed many previous episodes. "I felt like every scene echoed scenes that we've seen before, from Sayid killing the chicken (Eko killing the old man), to Horace asking Sayid if he were a spy (like Henry Gale was an Other sent to spy)." My problem was that I felt they are repeating story lines. Sayid could kill a chicken so he becomes a killer? Not the same impact of Eko killing a man instead of his brother. I found Sayid's back story very boring. It did not give us any insight or new information. He stopped killing because Ben said they were done. That was the big reason? Conway is thinking along these same lines. "The sullen man in this episode made me not interested in his flashbacks at all." Lil agrees with us "The other stuff about Sayid was filler." We don't need filler with so few episodes left.
Even the title was a let down. Oldham is supposed to be Dharma's Sayid? He gave Sayid a LSD sugar cube. That is not real torture. It is not something I want done to me, but it is not close to the hell Sayid put people through. Ladybug adds, "I agree with Juggy, lsd? That's all it took to get SAYID to talk? That's dumb. Sayid is the master torturer, he can endure much more. The whole scene was useless because no one believed Sayid anyways. Useless except for the laughter it drew when Naveen Andrews tried to sound high and instead sounded gay. It was just a very strange scene. Lil was not buying the scene either. "Sayid being a prisoner and being "tortured" was ironic. Drop some LSD, the prisoner tells the truth and you all think you gave him too big of a hit." He could of at least given us one new detail in his statement of truth, but we were not even given a crumb of something interesting.
There was the big "shocking" scene of Sayid shooting a 12 year old Ben. Alien Entourage's first post described it well. "Even the ending of Ben being shot was not much of a shocker to me. You could see it coming when Jin steps out of the van with flashlight and gun...you just know what is going to happen next....or is that just me?" No it is not just you, most of could see that coming. RazzleDazzle could also, "I gave it a 6 for the obvious Sayid shooting Ben" Ben will survive the gun shot wound and it may cause some problems for Jack, Kate and Hurley. If it gives our original Losties more airtime then I like the story line more.
I appreciate Laklost trying to pick me up after this episode. Her insight into the story gives me hope that the payoff will be worth still be there. We just need to have this story move along at a faster pace. I need to see Hurley doing more than making pancakes. Let's get the story back to the main characters of this story. We need to see Hurley, Kate, Jack and Locke more in the upcoming episodes. What ever happened to Desmond? I am still anticipating great episodes this season. Here is hope to a return to our favorite characters and to some answers!

I agree with the whole LSD scene. How completely lame. Oldham is the master at torture and Sayid will, like it or not, tell the truth. But when Sayid speaks they all think he must be lying. How stupid they all look. Unless, of course, they are suspicious and are just hiding it. Maybe the real torture is yet to come. You know, inflict some frakkin' pain and see if he tells the same story about a plane, and time travel, etc. After all, Jin was all acting crazy and jittery and spoke of ...a plane. Maybe Radzinsky tipped off Oldham to see if Sayid mentioned a plane. Whatever, we know that the fabric of lies Sawyer has been weaving for three years is quickly unraveling and trouble is brewing. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Isn't Ji Yeon home with Sun's mother?
whatever happened to rose, bernard, aaron, ji yeon, and dan?
I liked the episode, I enjoy seeing how they became who they are and also what they were doing before they returned to the island. Sayid is really the oinly one who came agaijnst his will, and it was good to see how he was captured and why.
I am apparently the only one who doesn't care to see any more of Desmond and Penny.
I thought this episodes ending left some questions. I'm assuming Ben lives and this is why he becomes the way he is because as a kid he was treated so poorly and then tries to help someone who in turn says they'll help him and Sayid shoots him, that can cause a lot of emotional and physical distancing from anyone.
Did this already happen in Ben's past?
Sayid also reminded me a lot of Ben as Henry Gale. in those episodes, to the point of things being repeated, Ben seemed like he was very calm, almost waiting for something. We later find out Ben always has a plan. Sayid touches on that when he tells Sawyer he was going to wait. Young Ben also mentions patience to Sayid.
That being said, even though it kills him emotional because he knows what's to come, what if Sayid knows he's supposed to shoot young Ben. What if Sayid is still "working" with/for Ben and Ben has told him what he needs to do.
In this last episode Sayid acted a lot like Locke in that he's looking for instruction or guidance for what he's to do next, since he's realized his purpose. In the early seasons Sayid was very take charge, make things happen for himself. (i.e. the walkie talkies, looking for the communications tower, etc.)
Hey, I got mentioned. Awesome.
