I just rewatched season 4's episode 'cabin fever' where we last meet Claire in the Cabin and according to what she's wearing there, the woman behind Sun can't be her... So, sadly, I'd prefer the idea of the first big Lost Mistake we saw...
Also her hair might be rather red...

I agree with TheDukeA#1. The placement in the shot, the panning, the lighting all seem intentional - and freaky...

I think that whatever opened the door let in the woman. Smokey or not. Maybe it was the REAL Jacob? He is invisible to people at times.

Totally agree with TheDukeA#1. Remember that when these scenes are filmed, they are usually much lighter than what we see once edited. The "crew-member" would have easily been spotted when replaying the scene and it would have been shot again, which leads me to believe it was intentional.

I was watching this episode on my widescreen LCD and for a minute I thought this would make sense as an unintentional mistake if the shot was originally meant for a standard 4:3 ratio TV, where the 'mystery woman' would be cut off the screen. But a lot of shows these days are shot in HD widescreen format and I'm pretty sure the director/cinematographer was pretty aware of the figure in the background. If this is a 'mistake' it seems waaay too amateurish to me. In my opinion, I think it's Charlotte mainly because of her reddish hair.

i just rewatched the episode and i did notice that the hair looked too dark to be claire... maybe its int he dak but still claire was more bleach blonde this looks more red to me...

I agree with The Duke. It seems intentional, particularly with the lighting.

Although Claire makes more sense, it looks more like Charlotte to me. But I'm always wrong, so it's probably Claire.

JJR has an interesting point about Aaron. That was just so weird how Kate all of a sudden was OK with going baaaack, and she had that inexplicable reaction when Jack asked where Aaron was. Maybe if Claire somehow "appeared" in front of Kate and managed to "take" Aaron back to the island, then that would explain why Kate was so willing to go back. And maybe why she wouldn't tell Jack, because it does sound kind of nuts.

But on the other hand, it seems like Kate would've been more like Sun upon arrival, "a woman on a mission" looking for Aaron, rather than just being OK with hanging out with the Dharmites... so... I don't know....

As someone who works in film and video I can offer this up.

When filming a scene, you do it many...many...many times. The reason for that, is to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen. I would suspect that it's indeed a planned shot that the woman is behind Sun.

The lighting on the set suggests that as well. The light peeking through the boarded windows hits the blond perfectly...just enough to show you somebody is there.

Mistakes still make it into shows sometimes...the show 24 just recently had a cameraman standing in full view in all black while a battle was happening around him...whoops! So it does happen...

But this is Lost and they take extra care to hide stuff in the background for the show...so I really think what we saw was intended.

They did purposely draw the viewers attention to the door opening and the smoke coming in the room. If it was purposeful, I'd say definitely Claire, as we last saw her sitting in the Cabin with Christian.

She appeared to Kate at one point in a previous episode...who's not to say she somehow came and got Aaron and he's with her now? Maybe he's "The Little Prince?"

I say this only because she looks a lot like she's holding a blanket of some sort (that white thing) which could be reminiscent of Aaron (yes, I know Aaron is safe off-island). However, if it IS Claire, I don't think we'll see her more clearly any time soon.

i dont think it was a crew member because just before the woman is in the room the door opens and misty stuff comes in, it could be dust or it could be a set up to showing us that smokey is a shape shifter ?

Well we know that Claire has been with Christian before like at the cabin. But I also agree that it might be Charlotte. Didn't her body disappear when the island shifted after she died?

I agree with Japegrape. This definitely looks like a person who is part of the crew. As for it being a "rookie" mistake... maybe. But think of the original shot and how dark it was in the background. Then take into account all of the other dimly lit and background objects. There is actually a lot going on in the background, and when you're in the editing room, crammed for time, you may miss something like this.

I mean we've seen several other mistakes like this when you think about it. I can probably name 3 instances where you see part of a cameraman in the shot.

I think I see a man behind her too. He looks bald. Locke, perhaps? He's dead now, so maybe he's traveling with Christian and Claire.

My friends and I noticed this and rewound it about 30 times to see if we could tell if it was actually Claire, or if it was an accidental inclusion of some set workers in the shot.

I say "workers," because some of us could clearly make out another person, a man, sitting behind this woman. If you look immediately to her left, you will see the line of his back, he's wearing a striped shirt. Above and to the left of her hair, you can just make out his forehead and hairline. He's facing to the right behind the woman.

The woman is clearly wearing a graphic tee shirt, sitting at some sort of terminal or equipment.

One way or another, if it was a mistake, I'm sure they'll play it in somehow now that we've latched onto it ;)
