What's Hot: 6x05: User Requested Images
At long last we got a glimpse of what is assumed to be the four-toed statue tonight, but unfortunately we only got to see the back of it, and only for about 3 seconds. The pic is above and although it doesn't give a lot of description, early Egyptian connections scream from this. Especially when you consider other Egyptian items such as the hyroglypics and such. What do you think?? Could the Egyptians have gotten their knowledge from the original inhabitants of the island? Or was the island simply populated with early Egyptians?

Well, maybe the olegends of Anubis are based on aperson in this reality, and that person is Richard - not a god but a spcetregveler or another advanced life form
If you're saying that Richard is some kind of god I really have to disagree. Sure he seems immortal and all, but some things are still over his head. Apparently he doesn't know much about the time-traveling properties of the island. He seems to me that he is more of a messenger than a god.
I was also think today at work that you know Anubis had two forms, animal and man. Could Richard be the human form of Anubis?
When Ben or Julia talk about him, they always say he's always been here on the island, and Richard is over 200 years old I thought I read somewhere.
Just food for thought.
I do have that statue...in minature form. It's 24 inches tall and costed $500. I got it Comic Con a few years back. Going again this year. Woot!
After thinking about where I had seen a statue like that before I realized that it was either Anubis or Horus. Couldn't remember which at the time. I know! Richard & Jacob are actually Goa'uld's! (LOL!) I posited early on that the island might be Atlantis or Eden. The theory of Atlantis sinking might have been a misunderstanding of the effect of the island moving. It did look like it sank. I'm wondering if what everyone refers to as the island actually being a personality isn't actually the Jacob entity. Jacob as the ego of the island and Smokie as the ID?
Ozma
is there any possibility of it being Daniel anymore? thoughts?
At first I thought it might be Circe's island from the Odyssey, but then they had too many Egyptian references.
Atlantis was known for its love of learning.
I always saw more of a connection with Greek mythology than Egyptian in terms of Atlantis.
I know they said that they wouldn't turn the island into heaven or hell either, but here they have what looks like Anubis and he's the god who judged those before letting them enter the afterlife or not. (I'm learning all this in my Humanities class right now, so I'm finding it super fascinating and helpful in studying! Thanks, Lost!)
I m amazed by all of these theories but I can t stop thinking on what a revelation and shock it would be if in the end the face on the statue was of John Locke!
@themaven: I'd take that with a grain of salt. Remember this quote from Damon Lindelof?
"But nothing is flat-out impossible. There are no spaceships. There isn't any time travel."
I thought the producers said early on that this was not Atlantis.. But I could be wrong..
I'm thinking that the Island might be where all of the advanced cultures sprang from...
(IE Atlantis, Egyptian, etc.)
I bet the statue gets destroyed, leaving only the one foot, in the coming war that Widmore warned Locke about. So much for long life.
I only see 4 toes, myself.
Great thought with the eyeliner, Hord! I didn't even think about that! It looks like the island might be turning out to be the lost city of Atlantis. Afterall, it is LOST!
You actually have that statue, TheDuke? Nice! Good picture - thanks for sharing. It looks like it has five toes, though, to me.
Didn't Eqyptians wear eyeliner? or some form of it. Because they made heavy reference to Richard and his eyeliner yet again in the show.
nice connections.
I think Anubis is holding 2 Ankhs in his hands.
Yep, all this is on the way up.
Also forgot, Anubis only has four toes.
pretty sure the statue is Anubis. I have one it looks a lot like it. In one hand her has a staff the other he carrys the cross. I have seen pictures though where he has the cross in one hand and a double edge battle ax in the other with the blade resting on the ground.
Here is a pretty solid picture of the statue I have.

It is, pics coming soon.
I bet that the statue is holding a giant version of Paul's pendant in it's right hand.
Hello everyone:
Though this is my first posting, i think that this one is pretty obvious. The writers always seem to have a play on words and redundancy within an episode so i am fairly certain what lies on the other end of that statue we saw tonight.
Ironically, the Egyptian god of religion (Horus) shares a phonetically similar name to the Dharma mechanic character in tonight's episode. more info at wikipedia at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horus
any thoughts?
There's a lot of ties to Egypt in Atlantis mythology. According to legend, Egyptians learned hieroglyphics from the Atlanteans. Also, all the reoccurring philosophical themes and references to past philosophers almost seem to pay homage to the study itself. One of the most famous philosophers was Plato, and he was the first to write the account of Atlantis. I still like Atlantis as the explanation of the island's past and its lore.
There is no way that the statue will have a human face. Where would the fun be in that? If it is Egyptian then my guess is Anubis, guardian of the underworld, similar to Cerberus of Greek mythology. The statue is placed so close to the shore; it definitely seems like it is watching over the island, or watching out for it. Could it have been broken in the flash when Widmore leaves and is in the water just off the cliff?
We also saw the Ankh in this episode, the cross with the loop on the end that Paul wore. It's the symbol of eternal life in Egyptian lore.
and just like egyptian statues they all were humans with animal features... what if its vincent?? TPTB have already said that vincent makes it through the series alive...
That statue looks very Egyptian.
Do you think it could be that the "others" are descendants of the ancient egyptians? and that they somehow found a way to the island through some other port, ie, tunsia?
