Although Jughead scored high in the overall ratings, the segment ratings give more detail on exactly how SWLS viewers reacted to the show as it progressed. The opening segment, which introduced us to baby Desmond and featured the 50's Others capturing Dan's bunch, actually rated much lower than the first two episodes of Season 5.

Segment 2 returned higher ratings with the appearance of Richard Alpert, and the revelation that "Jones" was an Other (and that Latin is a requirement of Otherness).

The third stretch took us along with Desmond to Faraday's mothballed lab in search of Eloise. It also featured a conflicted Locke allowing "Jones" to escape as he couldn't bring himself to shot one of his own people. This segment also saw a steady increase in ratings, a trend that would continue through the episode.

In Segment 4, we got a look at jughead and learned that Faraday seemingly dislodged someone he cares for pre-island from normal time-space. Ratings went up again, as they did in the fifth Segment (where we learned that Jones is Widmore).

The final segment was the highest rated (featuring an interesting Locke / Alpert talk and a bloody Charlotte), which is always a good thing. The jump wasn't quite as high as it was between the previous segments, but moving up nonetheless. It's obvious from these results, that the episode may have started off pretty humble, but it kept building up momentum that pushed it higher and higher with each segment. That makes for an exciting experience, and explains why this episode did so well in the overall ratings.
