We also got our first look at the mysterious Temple we've heard so much about in tonight's episode. We learn that the temple (which is where Montaun lost his arm) has similar looking Glyphs on the side of it as what was used on the countdown timer in the Swan Station (the hatch). This seems a little odd when you consider that the Temple is supposedly an ancient building that predates the Dharma Initiative, and the Swan Station was built in the 70s/80s. It is also possible speculation at this point that the Temple may be Smokey's home. I base this mostly on the connection with Ben, who seemed to be able to call Smokey to the slaughter last season, and also is the one who sent his people to the Temple for safety. Ben has referred to the Temple as "the last safe place on the island."

does anyone know what those say. A lot of those hieroglyphs are the same as the ones that the timer would show above the computer when the hatch was still around
Mega Man Star Force 2 features a Mu that is a floating continent; for thousands of years it has remained cloaked with the use of electromagnetic waves. Dr. Vega, the main antagonist of the game, means to use certain OOPArts to revive the continent.
Mu was a continent with many cities; when it sank, the mountain tops became the isles of Lemuria.
forget that last post of mine. it was just a trick of the light and an inset into the tower. my bad.
In the second image, it looks like there is a statue. Could it be Anubis? Guardian of the underworld?
I can see that it does resemble Cambodian architecture. Could this temple be built for the same reasons as Angkor Wat?
Stop the presses!
I did a short google search for temples, that led me to this site about angkor wat which this Lost structure greatly resembles:
http://www.sacredsites.com/asia/cambodia/angkor_wat.html
This site is fun. Here's a quote:
At the temple of Phnom Bakheng there are 108 surrounding towers. The number 108, considered sacred in both Hindu and Buddhist cosmologies, is the sum of 72 plus 36 (36 being ½ of 72). The number 72 is a primary number in the sequence of numbers linked to the earth’s axial precession, which causes the apparent alteration in the position of the constellations over the period of 25,920 years, or one degree every 72 years. Another mysterious fact about the Angkor complex is its location 72 degrees of longitude east of the Pyramids of Giza.
and another:
Jayavaram VII, spoke of his intentions in erecting temples as being:
“full of deep sympathy for the good of the world, so as to bestow on men the ambrosia of remedies to win them immortality….By virtue of these good works would that I might rescue all those who are struggling in the ocean of existence.”
Fun, no? Can't wait to read more...
Dharma (at least those not at the very top echelon) respected the island and I could see them incorporating the glyphs into their own technology as a homage to the island.
However, we know barely nothing about this “temple.” We don’t know:
When are Losties came upon the site,
When the “temple” was built,
Who did the carvings (the differences in styles points to people other than the builders doing the carvings),
What the carvings mean. (Could they be a warning about Smokie?)
If the site is a temple (any archeologists out there?)
Assuming it is a temple, we definitely don’t know if it’s the same temple that Ben spoke of. It’s a big island, folks and that did not seem like a safe place. I think the others have a knowledge of Smokie, but contact with it could be dangerous for them, too.
Could dharma have adopted the glyphs for their own purposes? We know they used them on the time meter in the hatch. What other dharma related things have the glyphs?
The temple does not look Graeco-Roman, and the Glyphs look Egyptian. Definitely a mix of cultures. The statute foot did look Roman.A pre-dating culture, like Atlantis? It certainly could have seemed as though the island sank!
As for the glyphs being the same as DHARMA's maybe they copied them.
So "sick" means that you're being possessed by a smoke-entity. That's interesting. I hope those left on the island still come across the Temple again with Jin leading the way. Isn't there a door in one of the above pics?
Well, now we know the TEMPLE is actually a temple and not some hidden station or something.
Interesting - Egyptian hieroglyphics and South Asian/Malaysian architecture. I'm gonna assume this leads up to some kind of Atlantis/Mu revelation? Doesn't explain the 4 toed statue tho.. maybe Smokey took the Egyptian king's toe?
Hey guys,
Did ya'll notice how the french team was actually killed, not spirits, like Yemi and the countless other ghosts the island sends. So these guys were actually human. I just think that they were like possessed, kind of like Claire is right now. She would have to be possessed to leave Aaron alone in the jungle.
We also know for sure that smokey lured them into that whole. There is no way that Montaun would have asked for help so calmly, especially after his arm got ripped off. So something happend to them down there. I think they changed like Claire has.
Cool to see the Temple, but really anti-climactic. I was expecting something a little more grandiose.
I still say that Richard is King Tut and Smokey is the curse of the Mummy.
maybe it's a motto!
I actually meant that to be a question, not a statement... were they?
and these were the same glyphs that we saw in Ben's secret-room-inside-a-secret-room
We need a translator again!
