5x04 "The Little Prince" Rating Summary

5x04 "The Little Prince" is the first episode of season 5 that has really divided SWLS. A 7.43 rating is the lowest of the season but it does not tell the whole story. This episode has earned a season low rating of 5 by four voters, with a couple of 10. The main point of contention appears to be the lack of "surprises" in this episode and what constitutes a WOW moment.

The positive reviews came in immediately after the episode ended. Bambi found it "wonderful". She wanted to give it a 10 but "leaving Rose and Bernard out of the story- where are they?" (This is a very good question, did they go hide out in the caves?) Bambi was "happy that everyone (almost) was back in action". You have to agree with that, I don't understand the people who want the Oceanic 6 to be forgotten. Dominos was in the same train of thought. "Loved last night's episode, Jin is alive! We saw Danielle!" Sweet Old lady agrees that seeing Danielle was great adding that this episode "was a good foundation for some real revelations". Sweet Old Lady also sees the Daniel/Charlotte storyline ending in a "real tear jerker". I'm sorry but you just cannot argue with a Sweet Old Lady. Sauget.didlosio agrees with the 9 rating. He liked seeing "Locke decide not to comfort himself" and "Hurley in a jumpsuit".

"The Little Prince" was not universally loved. Asmodean was not a fan of this episode. He gave it a 5 calling it "very predictable". Time-jumper was close with a 6 rating. He posted that "it kind of let me down after the first three" episodes. Razzle Dazzle was not impressed either. "Jack being clueless has been old for seasons". Madam P was not finding much action is this episode. I "didn't feel much happened, and I was bored with the walking around part". Gjohnson is went even farther saying he is disappointed with the whole season. "Even the first two eps, I'm not on the edge of my seat."

Most of the people disappointed with the episode stated that the episode was predictable. They had predicted many of this weeks reveals and found no "WOW!" moments. I do not understand this sentiment. I am very active on these boards and I did not read any predictions that 1988 pregnant Danielle would find Jin alive floating on a piece of wood. I guess that this comes down to when the surprise came. I agree that the moment that Locke asked if anyone could read French, we knew Danielle was not far behind. This was the moment of the reveal, not when we saw her moments later in the boat. Most of us did think we would see Danielle's story and that Jin would be alive, but we did not expect to see the stories collide out in the ocean in 1988. I think that is a very good surprise moment.

This was a set up episode that did slow the action down from the first three hours of the season. It did achieve its goal of getting most of the Oceanic 6 together and the islanders in position. It provided us with some guidelines of what to expect as the time traveling story line progresses. It appears that the Losties will avoid interacting with their earlier versions and avoid any difficulties that this would cause. We had a couple of nice surprises with Danielle and Jin meeting. We even had a small Ajara Airlines mentioned. Is this the airlines that will bring the Oceanic 6 back to the island? Overall, a solid episode that puts the pieces in place to move the story line forward.

My hunch is that they're setting up all the chess pieces and the second half of the season is going to be much better...

If Rose and Bernard were smart they stayed in a place that was safe. I also noted that they would be better in the caves. Perhaps that is one place that would remain "contstant"

At this point, I hope Benard and Rose are NOT Adam and Eve. That reveal would be... expected... and probably another lower rated episode (by me at least).
