So maybe a young Widmore had something to do with the loss of Montaun's arm. SO Montaun was the rather bossy french dude right? It makes sense to me that he would be made an example of by Widmore.

But I thought that nothing could change and that the events happening now have always happened, as DF explained you can't change the past.

Also, I agree with ajkeefer as to how Jin got inside the radius. Clever stuff.

She wouldn't have recognized him because they hadn't met before. Now they've met.... in the past.... but it is a 'new' past.

Gotta love all the implications of these 'new' past encounters.

I went back to the first season and watched the Rousseau episodes. She only interacted with Sayid and Hurley until the season finale when she came into camp. She was telling a large group of Losties her story and they were standing around her in a circle. Jin was standing right in front of her, but they never spoke or had a scene together. It's possible that in a crowd that size that she didn't focus closely on ANYONE, and just saw him as a generic man-in-the-crowd. He obviously recognized her name when she found him on the beach in The Little Prince, but I think it's plausible that she didn't recognize him at the camp.

Remember the doctor whose throat was cut. His body washed up on shore before he was killed by Keamy. So how about this...Jin jumped from the freighter in "world" time and swam toward the island on "island" time and was actually closer to the island (inside the radius) than the copter when the island went POOF. Possible?

SomeLostFans said:

Thanks. That's perfectly clear now. (yeah right).... : )

Ok... Jin got thrown through the air close to the water and then fell in the water. The water is a conduit (think electricity) and he got sucked closer into the time travel radius. The helicopter, up in the air, missed the time travel, because you have to be touching the ground or the conduit (water). So he is time traveling mode while the six are back in 'real' time.

I have a thought based on Yuyu Hakusho, a japanese manga. There they think a portal is in one stage, based on the radius of the field the portal generates. Turned out the portal was 2 stages ahead, because the visible radius of the field, at the surface was far from the center that was located hundreds of yards down.
So if the center of the time traveling field is way bellow the surface, the helicopter could be out of radius, and Jin inside radius, even if in horizontal distance the chopper was closer, since the vertical distance puts one in and other out of radius.

What I can't figure out is how Jin could be travelling through time but the helicopter passengers didn't. I don't see how Jin could get blown ahead of the helicopter and into the radius. Remember, the island didn't move until the helicopter was within sight of the island. The boat explosion could only be seen by Sawyer through the smoke. Any thoughts?

Maybe the fact that she is pregnant keeps her from the 'island sickness'

Also, I could hear the numbers 4, 8, 15, ? in a mans voice on the hand held radio (Montan?) after they arrive on the beach.

If anyone is working on the audio translations for this scene, listen for that.

Thanks for the links, sledgeweb.

So Montaun lost an arm, eh? Now who do we know who likes to chop off arms? And then there's the potentially-prosthetic arm of Marvin Candle in the one Dharma training video... hmmm.

People on this island seem to lose a lot of body parts (like the four-toed statue.) Maybe they haven't mastered apparition and are splinching themselves. :-)

BTW, I thought Jin was alive too. Yay. (I know what you mean, NorthShore; to get thrown even a little bone by this crazy show feels great!)

Jiffy, that's possible (well, almost anything is possible when you start dealing with time travel), but you have to keep in mind that the island physically moved in space, not just time. So even if Jin was floating in the water, there's no island to float to.

No, more likely is that the blast from the freighter actually blew Jin from the deck with such force that it landed him (and a piece of the wooden deck) inside the radius of the island before it started jumping. He's been skipping along in time with the other Losties, just drifting out at sea.

Maybe Jin wasnt transported in time but came along the Island at the time that the Island was experiencing "1988" and that is why the Frenchies are just landing there.

The Island time doesnt have to match the outside time, right? So Jin is floating along after the freighter explodes and like Desmond, just happens along the Island. The "time" on the Island is 1988ish (when Danielle arrives).

I never thought Jin was dead, glad to see him back.
I can understand him being blown clear of the freighter, but wonder how did he get transported back in time and not the helicopter?

jmm635 said:

Come on people, tons of fans predicted that Jin was still alive. I'd estimate it was nearly 50-50 among fans who thought he was alive and ones who thought he was dead.
I've been dying for Danielle's backstory and I thought we'd never get it now that she was dead. I always thought the "sickness" she talked about was the same sickness that killed Minkowski and is now affecting Charlotte and Miles. If Daniel is right, that it has something to do with how long you've been on the island, then this can't be the same sickness that hit Danielle's crew being that they arrived on the island the same time she did and she did not get sick. Unfortunately, we probably won't get much information about this before there is another flash and the Frenchies are gone.

so so happy Jin is alive- i knew he would be ok! Now they just need to convince Kate to go back and they've got them all.

Jin alive! I called this last season!!

Blitz Wing said:

"Ill-Fated" because, from what I recall from memory, Danielle says their entire team got sick and killed each other (or she killed them?).

I recall something about Danille removing the firing pins from rifles....and her husband (Robert?) tried to shoot her with a disable rifle....so she had to kill him.

NorthShoreOGLost said:

None of you know this...but I've always called it that Jin wasn't dead! So good to be right about this show for once!

timberwolf said:

Forgive my forgetfullness, but how/why is Robert "ill-fated" and who are he and Montaun?

Also, there was nothing significant that I caught in their French dialogue on the beach, but I couldn't understand them during the scene on the water when they found Jin. I wonder if there is a way to get some quality audio for me to listen to and try to pick out anything important. Perhaps some good info about Danielle are her team is in there. On vera!

I can't remember specific interaction between Jin and Danielle?

I am sure they were together on some trek through the woods - maybe going to the radio tower. But I don't recall anything specific...anyone??
