What's Hot: First New Image of Season 6
Ever since last week when a time traveling Daniel Faraday told in-the-past Desmond to go find his mom, many have been speculating that his mother was the infamous Ms. Hawking. After all, they both share a love for chalkboards and math, so why not make the connection. Well, tonight we got some fairly solid proof that our suspicions were correct.
If you watched the repeat of 5x02 tonight, at the end when Ms. Hawking is shown, the popup message at the bottom of the screen identifies her as Eloise Hawking. This is the first time we've been given her first name.
So on tonight's episode a young 20-something girl captures Daniel and gang who we later find out are in 1954. The woman is referred to in the episode as Ellie. In another scene Daniel says to her "You look so much like..." and then he stops. He obviously recognized her. Our final clue that this young girl, Ellie, is not only Daniel's mom but also the temporal watcher Ms Hawking comes from remembering during last season when Daniel was doing the time experiments with the rats. His time traveling rat he gives the name of Eloise. I don't think you can shout any louder that this IS Daniel's mom.
Ellie = Eloise = Ms Hawking = Daniel's Mom.

I don't think that Widmore and Ms. Hawking are married. because then Penny and Daniel should be brothers and sisters and that doesn't make sense.
Does make sense that if she got pregnant she would leave the island to protect her baby..
...or she didn't shot her son!

Great casting and direction. The younger Ellie's speech pattern is distinctive - clenched teeth, mouth - and Mrs. Hawking speaks almost the same way, though it seems more natural on her.
I don't know, I'm not thoroughly convinced. I'm going to need something that is completely solid, not just "fairly solid". Nah, I'm just busting balls. I make the connection between Ellie and Mrs. Hawking at the time, but now that you're saying it, makes total sense. I think I'm agreeing with the brother/sister theory more than the Widmore is Daniel's father theory.

I'm going to go with Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking being brother and sister. I agree that their interaction on-island seemed much more like bickering siblings.
Would it be totally out-there to suggest Richard Alpert as Daniel's father? I thought of this just from a coloring standpoint -- Ellie is definitely blonde, and so apparently is Widmore. But Daniel has the dark hair and eyebrows of Alpert. Normally casting directors seem to ignore this sort of thing, but on this show they sure have done some spot-on casting. (Of course, just having dark hair doesn't necessarily mean either parent has to have dark hair, I suppose.) Anyway, it's a thought.
Wonder how Eloise and Widmore both ended up off the island and what their relationship is to each other. Lovers or siblings? Daniel definitely a key connection between the two nefarious characters. No wonder Widmore funded his research and took care of the disastrous results, and hired him to try and find the island again. I have to rewatch this episode...
Eloise = also the name of Daniel's lab rat which successfully made its way through a maze after some time-travelling experiment but later died suffering from a nosebleed and brain aneurysm
Hey Juggy, Versed suggested that perhaps Widmore and Ellie are Brother/Sister instead of lovers. The way they spoke to each other in the camp could be construed that way. Just another idea.
Wow, I didn't pick up on when they called her "Ellie." This is definite then. There's no way this girl is not Faraday's mom as a young woman. Awesome.
I have no doubt Hawking is his mom.
I find the possiblity that Widmore is the dad interesting. Both on the island, same age. COuld be why they had to leave the island.
Could his dad be Widmore? Maybe she left the island with him? He did go to his personal rolodex to get her contact info...
that is some pretty spot on casting if you ask me.
