What's Hot: Lost Ate My Life Too!
For those of you who don't know DocArzt, have you been living in a cave? Many Lost fans became aware of DocArzt on the popular Lost site, TheTailSection.com, to which he no longer contributes (his new site is www.docarzt.com). He is also someone that Sledge and myself would call a friend, and he's certainly been a friend to Sledgeweb's Lost...stuff, providing us with some great breaking news on occasion, and crediting SWLS as the first Lost site he visited regularly, as well as what inspired him to do his own site.
DocArzt has written a new book (with Amy "Hijinx" Johnston) that takes a first-hand look at not just the story of Lost's beginnings, but specifically at the fandom that was created from this show that we all love so much. The book is called, "Lost Ate My Life: The Inside Story of a Fandom Like No Other" and you can buy your own copy from Amazon.com by clicking here.
And Sledgeweb fans should be aware, our favorite Lost site is mentioned in Doc's book. The following is quoted directly from Lost Ate My Life:
"One of the earliest blogs to become a must-read was Ben Sledge's (yes, that is his real name) "Sledgeweb's Lost Stuff." Sledgeweb's approach treated each episode as an "investigation," and Sledge's propensity for detail made him the most thorough Easter egg hunter in the business. To this day, Sledgeweb is the yardstick for examining, cross-referencing, interpreting and explaining the various bits of minutiae hidden within each episode."
Wow. Now that's a great quote! Of course, we all knew this already, but seeing it on paper sure does add some credibility to it. There are other Lost sites mentioned in the book as well, including the incredibly popular DarkUFO. "Lost Ate My Life" had this to say:
"Darkufo emerged as the electronic equivalent of a news-clipping agency. Hosting a mass of sharp-minded contributors who provide original content, Darkufo's site is perhaps best known as the nexus of everything that is Lost in the mass media. Testing the bounds of "fair use," the blog has become a gathering point for even the most offhand mentions of Lost in the mass media. If Entertainment Weekly publishes an article on Lost, you can be sure it will be cut, copied and pasted into the appropriate category on Darkufo's sprawling network of Lost blogs."
Currently there is a contest over at DocArzt's Blog where you have a chance of winning one of 10 signed copies of this new book, simply by donating $10 to help www.DocArzt.com remain a great source of Lost news. You can get all of the details here, on Doc's site, and show some love to one of our Lost cousins.

Where is the mute button? Can I ignore the feud? How about giving them a little, teeny, tiny room where they can poke at each other BUT where we don't have to scroll through it... after all we are all simply LOST fans here!!!! Not book critics!!!!
Now.... in case I haven't mentioned it. I do love this site!
How many days left till we can sit down in front of the TV and see them all again?
But mark, that is also true. Regardless of what percentage. I'm not making a judgment about it, it is a statement of fact. Either way, I acknowledge the fact that there is also a stable of contributors. So I don't see your point. I think you are taking it out of context. The fact is, there is substantial copy and paste on there. Whether you think that is bad or not is your opinion. Personally, I see nothing wrong with it - it just makes the site more comprehensive.
Thanks Lil. The fantastic things Sledge sees in each episode is always what brought me back too. Its also what got me into building websites in the first place, and eventually helping Sledge with this site. I watched a promo today for season 5, which I'd already seen, and STILL got chills. Man I can't wait!
Thanks Astro for the article and some "historical" information on SLWS and the book.
I have heard of this book before and after LOST stops consuming my life, perhaps I shall read it!
Juggy thank you as I did wonder what happened to our rather community.
Wait did I hear Smokey ;)
I adore the easter eggs and one of the many reasons I kept coming back here. This was the first place I would come the morning after the show to see what I may have missed.
Thanks Ben for your time efforts and providing such a great site.
;)
Should of said boys not buys.
Why is all of this hating coming over to this lovely site?
We are like innocent bystanders in this little feud.
Sounds like a good book and I hope you find success with it.
Now, lets bring the love.
You buys hug this out.
I agree that you gave them some Kudos but this
"If Entertainment Weekly publishes an article on Lost, you can be sure it will be cut, copied and pasted into the appropriate category on Darkufo's sprawling network of Lost blogs"
was not really necessary.
I would hasten to guess that less than 1% of posts on dark's site were from EW.
Hmm, well for anyone who takes that as belittling - it's more of an expression of awe. There is also tremendous kudos to the contributions there. I think few would argue that DarkUFO certainly is a nexxus of lost. Distilling my comment to the worst possible interpretation of one sentence is a study in taking things out of context. "Hosting a mass of sharp-minded contributors who provide original content, Darkufo's site is perhaps best known as the nexus of everything that is Lost in the mass media." is not, in my mind unflattering at all. The sites not only host a group of grade a contributors, but the media mentions and spoiler sections are an extremely complete repository of everything LOST. Regardless, you can't honestly suggest I am painting the site in a demeaning light when I'm praising the contributors as sharp minded.
doc apprec the reply but your belittling of darkufo in your book seemed very uncalled for.
calling him a copy and paste merchant shows your lack of knowledge for what that site does, especially during the off season. When i read it in your book it made me enjoy your book a lot less.
and as for copy/paste.Looking at your site a poster called lyly who has been posting almost as much as you seems to copy/paste the same info that is on dark ufo. In light of your comments they seem very hypocritical
just my 2 cents
Oh, and Mark... thanks for reading! It was a best first effort, not perfect - I'm grateful for every 'ok' I get. Nothing is going to equal the genius of the source material.
Nah, Mark. I accept criticism just fine. Not everyone is going to like it. But if you look at Silenthill's post history, you'll notice 99% of his posts are spammy links to DarkUFO. It may also interest you to know that many of these threads appear on my site under a different name (Tammy), word for word... like the one advertising fantasy league. I'll take honest criticism just fine, but this guy is a known flamer on my site - and a spammer on this one. Seems to me he might not like that Sledge got more respect than the site he works so hard to spam...
LongTimeReader FirstTimeCaller
Doc.
If you are going to write a book you have to accept criticism.
So if someone does not praise your book you try to belittle them?
Makes you look small, bitter and insecure.
I've read your book. It's ok. No great masterpiece but you need learn to accept not only praise but negative feedback.
What I find interesting is that all of silenthill's posts here at SWLS are spam for DarkUFO sites. Even a link for the misfit, and there is only a handful of people that know... oh wait, did I almost say that?
I read the book and to be honest I was like meh...
poorly written with a lot of grammar and spelling errors.
Some parts were ok but when I finished it I was like ok, is that it.
