What's Hot: 4x11: ... but choose wisely.
Kid Locke is asked by an immortal Richard Alpert to pick from a display of items objects which he already owns. This sort of test is used to pick a new Dali Lama when the current one dies. Is John Locke a reincarnation of sorts of the island, or Jacob? Perhaps his quest to find Jacob is sort of like Leroy Green's quest to find The Master in "The Last Dragon"? Sho' nuff! Locke fails the test when he picks the knife as being one of the objects he already owns. Other items present include a comic book, Book of Laws, a compass, and a vial with a coarse sand-like material.

Found a few details on the comic book.

I will continue to investigate.
I think the sand is the same sand that is around the cabin and connected with smokey.....
also - think you are on to something with the cain and able theme. seems to be the source of all the 'duality' cropping up throughout lost.
no way did you quote the last dragon! I thought i was the only person who ever saw that movie!
mgoblue12393: John and Benjamin maybe are brothers, have the same father?...
Does anyone else find it interesting that Locke as a boy looks like Ben as a boy? I donno. Just something to ponder!
I thought his choosing sand and the compass were correct... he got two out of three. Richard was fine until Locke chose the knife.
I like the front of the comic book where it says, "What was the secret of the mysterious hidden land?" THAT is just what we all have been wanting to know since we first starting watching LOST!!
Is the island depicted in the comic floating? Is that how the island will move?
Just by his very name, I think Locke was meant to be a man of law and order, which is what science basically is: finding order in the universe. Maybe when Locke chose the knife (he wants to be a man of aaction, one of the popular kids, the athletes Hmmm... like Jack?) that menas he did not choose to be himself - or he does not accept himself, while he seems to be self- confident. Or maybe he just is not who they want him to be.
could his choice be choosing the course for the hidden land? Maybe his choosing the knife meant that the strife over the island would continue. If he had chosen law, maybe the island would know peace?
Can anybody tell if that skyline on that comic is the same as the skyline reflected in the Lost logo??
that guy on the comic book cover sort of resembles christian sheppard. also, anyone else notice the picture young Locke had drawn of the smoke monster killing (or grabbing) someone?
Perhaps you can review the video and get a screen cap, but I think the comic book is in the locker that "teen John" is locked in. When he closes the door you can see it. Can anyone verify this?
Richard kind of smiled when Locke looked at the Book of Laws I think, then frowned when he looked away, so maybe that was it.
So, I'm curious about something, if Locke's destiny was to be some sort of scientist working for Dharma on the island this whole time, then which item was he suppossed to pick?? I figured he was suppossed to pick the sand, but that's not very "scientific".
For the record, that Mystery Tales comic is REAL! I checked my comic price guide and it's listed as $115 (although not in that kind of shape). Bonus points for anyone who can find a copy. Maybe all those answers we've been looking for are inside.
I'm calling it now!!! I just had a ENORMOUS thought of mega proportions!!!
It was the knife that made me think about it...
What if the whole story in LOST is the story of Cain and Abel?!?!
Before you jump all over me, do the research and think about the themes and facts in the show.
I think Jacob may be Cain...or Cain like. it does not have to be biblical after all, the story of the first murder and how evil between men came to be is super old and found in many cultures. So I think Jacob is punished and he can't die because of the "punishment". He needs a son or someone in his bloodline to kill him and end his torment. Hence, the theme of killing fathers in the show. Then there is the whole "God loved Jacob" theme too. Cain killed because he was jealous of his younger brother and he thought God loved Abel more. So we get the first Murder and the first Martyr. The Good one and the Bad one. Cain and Abel are the sons of Adam and Eve after the fall of man.
I will flush it out some more but I thnk Alpert is in one bloodline and the creepy thin black dude is in the other bloodline. Thats why when John chose the knife, Alpert was upset. Maybe he knew that John was in Cain's line...why that is bad I don;t know. After all Alpert is the one to lead Ben since he was a kid.
This is all still swimming in my head but you heard it hear first! LOST is a Cain and Abel story done on a massive level!!!
I would love for this theory to pick up some steam...
i think that the sand is from jacobs cabin..
That Richard immortal guy... I wonder if he's just shifting through time... not immortal. Remember when Ben awoke in the desert... and at the hotel he asked what the date was? I think Richard had been doing the time traveling thing for a while now.
The other theory about Richard... is that he's Jacob. Though my gut is against that.
Is the book of laws written by Hugo de Groot?
