In the opening segment, Desmond flashed through time while crossing the island "barrier", going back eight years into his past. Unlike his previous time travels, however, this time Desmond's brain got messed up, and when he flashed back to the island, he had no idea where he was, or who the people with him were. It was an intense opener, and scored the highest opening segment rating so far this season. The second and third segments were rated saw continued increase in ratings as we finally met Minkowski, and see past-Desmond connect with Penny over the phone (who isn't at all pleased to talk to him). The fourth segment saw a sharp decline in ratings, but still extremely high compared to past episodes. This was the confusing segment in which Desmond and Faraday hooked up in the past to start ripping holes in the space-time continuum. Things got a little more simple in the final two segments, and ratings jumped back up, closing with a perfect 5.0 rating for the final segment (the second time this season).

"The Constant" was a very strong episode according to SWLS members. It's interesting to note, that this was also one of the more confusing and puzzling episodes we've had in a while, but if you didn't get hung up on all the details and time-traveling paradoxes, it was a fun and well-paced addition to the show.
