Here's a closer look at the hand drawn map to the Temple that Ben passed along to Rousseau, Alex, and Carl in "Meet Kevin Johnson". The map is similar to the hand drawn map Dan and Charlotte used to find The Tempest Station. It's obviously a different map though. All you island charters, get to charting! Maybe they were around then. Time doesn't seem to be following a straight line here.
These are maps of different portions of the island. both maps are cut off at the top, which indicates that there are multiple maps. Also, the Temple map shows an inlet of water at top-center in the image, which is clearly not shown in the Tempest map. Furthermore, the Tempest map shows a river, which is not visible in the Temple map and probably should be were it the same map. Plus, the mountains are depicted differently.
The maps are almost certainly not from the Black Rock, unless the Dharma stations were added later, because Dharma was not around then.
I think it is likely that the producers will continue to give us glimpses of the various maps until we are able to piece together a composite map of the island.

Yes, the handwriting is similar.
They are not Black Rock maps. That handwriting is the kind used by people trained in things like drafting, engineering, etc. Block letters, all caps.
Folks didn't routinely write like that around the time of the Black Rock.

Over the black square it says "Barracks", so probably it just shows where the barracks are...?
Couple questions here... The logo on Daniel's map is cut off at the top. Any ideas why? A fold in the photocopy, maybe, or pieces of a map put together?
And can anyone make out what it says above the black square on Ben's map?
The Temple may actually be a sanctuary and not a station. If it's a sanctuary then it may not be on Hanso's radar as a station.
The handwriting is the same in both. The "N"of unknown is very similar to the "M"in temple.
Both maps were drawn by the same person.
I think the maps all came out of the book from the black rock. If they were modern maps, I think they would be more specific. Plus, it's not like you can fly over the island and get topographoc maps of the place, you know??
I don't think these are different maps at all, just drawings of the same location by two different hands.
In both maps there are mountains in the north and a blank area in the center. Both show a coast line and mountains running northwest to southeast. More significantly, both show a Dharma logo in a mountain valley at roughly the same location. Ben's is labeled "Temple" and the one near Daniel's thumb in the upper photo is unlabeled.
maybe the temple has something to do with that giant foot statue from 7 or 8 seasons ago
Looks like middle earth.
If the map maker had the time to shade the mountains, I'd think he'd give better details.
But I guess they need to keep the mystery going for the sake of the show.
yeah, I would get lost trying to use this type of map!
Take a left after the group of trees but before the little hill next to the stream....
AND walk for a day and a half to boot!
