4x05: The Kahana

4x05_kahana.jpgIn "The Constant" (Episode 5 of the 4th season of LOST), we get our first look at the not-penny's-boat. It appears it's name is "Kahana". Sounds Hawaiian, right? And since LOST is filmed in Hawaii, appropriately so. According to wiki: In Hawaiian, "kaha" means "to mark, draw, place, turn or surf," and "na" means "belonging to." There is a place on Oahu named Kahana Valley, so perhaps this is a reference to that? If you find any other meaning or anagrams for Kahana, let us know in the comments below! I agree with Lost Ed.

If it is Hawaiian, it more than likely has a meaning other than what was given. More common meanings of Kahana are 'valley', or 'the work, deed, task' ('hana' being the root word, 'ka' just being a noun marker). I think I prefer the Hindu translation better, though. Would fit with LOST themes a lot better.

mr socko, what do you mean? i def thought that desmond's "split" during the ep was very reminiscent of DT. also heard that jj abrams is working on a TV adaptation of it.

"I have a man on the boat" (Benjamin Linus)

Some unknown person destroys the communications

"You have a friend on the boat" (Minkowski)

Can you say Michael?

Personally, I believe they are using a vessel based out of Hawaii, and that name would be appropriate for a hawaiian vessel. Me thinks it is nothing, and the Hindu "nowhere" would be fortunate for the writers, much like cocaine for Oceanic.

oceanicair you sound just like the dad in 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' but replace hindi with greek!

That "Sounds Hawaiian right?" totally sounds like a Dark Tower reference. :D

I don't know if it really is supposed to be this, but I am an Indian and I speak Hindi, if I break this down into two parts, "Kaha" and "na" then the two words in Hindi mean, "where" and "no" respectively. If you switch places, it becomes; "no" "where" = "nowhere" don't know how much relevance it holds, but hey, it's just a thought!
