Unlike last week's episode, which generally grew stronger and stronger in fan reaction each segment, "The Economist" saw a sharp decline in the following three segments after the opener. It looks like fans weren't thrilled with Sayid's flashbacks during the majority of the episode, nor the on-island ventures. Things did pick up in Segment 5, when the rocket came crashing down on the island, and Sayid and company invaded Othersville. As well as Segment 5 performed, it was still below the opening segments rating. On a good note, the creepy ending with Ben performing pet surgery on Sayid is probably responsible for making the last segment once again the highest rated for the episode. Lost fans love those cliffhangers. In all, "The Economist" was a weaker performer all around compared to "Confirmed Dead". The beginning and end were only slightly down from last week, but a big dip in the middle seems to indicate fans were left wanting for a large part of the show.
