4x05: Black Rock Auction

4x05_blackRockAuction.jpgIn the fifth episode of the fourth season of ABC's LOST, we see a painting of the Black Rock being auctioned along with a ledger from the ship. According to the auctioneer, the ship was lost at sea. Lost? Not for us, we know that the Black Rock somehow ended up on Fun-Time island. The auction was won, of course, by Charles Widmore. We still don't know how he is tied into the details of the story of LOST, but it was good to see his face again. Will we find out more about the Black Rock in future episodes? What do you think?

New Numbers to Follow???

After rewatching the season on DVR, I found an interesting little Easter Egg...

When Daniel Faraday told Desmond to go find him in the past, he told him to set the machine to oscillate at 2.342.

The Black Rock Auction was lot number 2342

=)

Don't know if you guys know the history of Hanso and the Black Rock or not..

taken from lostpedia.com....

"Magnus Hanso was the great grandfather of Alvar Hanso. A 19th century sea captain and shipping merchant, he owned & possibly commanded the Black Rock. The blast door map suggests he was buried on the Island near the site of the ship wreckage"

If this book that was up for auction came from the ship it may have held the location of the island.

In the book "bad twin" the hanso foundation is located within the whidmore building and they talk about board meetings where they mention Alvar Hanso and Thomas Mittelwerk by name so I believe they are or were in business together.

Maybe someone has already said this...what if they are all the same Hanso? We know people can live for a long time on that island.

would it be possible that penny's father had a gps transmitter on desmonds yacht? from what i can remember it was him that influenced desmond to do the race... since he bought the journal back in 1996 he used des to "accidentally" find the location of the island, then send a team to investigate it (the freighters/not pennys boat)

Maybe Rousseau was unaffected? Those affected most have had some run-in with radiation, etc., in the past. Sayid and Lawnmower-man made it through unaffected as well. At least as far as we know so far!

Maybe the pregnancy was Rouseau's constant - her link to her past and her future?

It is also interesting to note that the people on Rouseau's boat also got "sick". Was Rouseau able to find a "constant" and keep herself from going mad and dying.

She is very enigmatic and seems to know more than she shares.

The "sickness" on the black rock could be due to them sailing thru the storm at 305?

I always said Widmore would be the bad guy behind all this!

A lot of people missed this, at least ones I know.

I have always stated that this island has a history prior to Dharma. Interesting that the owner a Hanso, perhaps Hans Foundation, is selling this book.
Penny has a picture of Alvar Hanso...hmm and her father now owns the journal.

A connection but of course my dear fellow fans.

How did Penny know how to reach that freighter? Her father is involved with this whole thing...

The Black Rock holds secrets and Danielle indicated that is where the sickness was. She would only go so far with the first expedition and the black smoke didn't want them their either.

OMG! Yes it is!

What's the name of the boat that Russo came on? Wasn't it the black rock?

Namaste said:

The black rock was referred to in find815.com. As well as a lot of other stuff from this episode. Has anyone thought about the tie-in??

TheWhiteRabbit said:

Mangus Hanso was presumably the captain of the Black Rock, and "Tovard" Hanso was the man who auctioned off the ledger.

The name of the Captain of the Black Rock was also named Hanso. It was his log that they were auctioning off. If anyone caught the first name please post it, I didn;t catch that part.

I noticed the Hanso thing.. which leads me to believe that is how Hanso found the island in the first place. Through the journal. Mr. Whidmore wanting it makes me wonder if it is his constant.. or I mean, Makowski says that they are under strict orders to NOT answer that line at any cost... strict orders from who? Whidmore is my guess. Whidmore is the one who set up the race around the world in the first place, my guess is that with the knowledge gained from the journal, he wanted Desmond out of Penny's life THAT bad.. he set up the whole race around the world to strand Desmond there, and then implemented a fail safe via the boat, to make sure that Penny couldn't ever find him. It's not her boat, but her father's. Just my theory.
