Hi, just to add my 2 penny in, (bearing in mind that us in the UK haven't seen episode just yet) I think it says Dean Moriarty, born 3 Mar 62, it's a Switz passport, Zurich and Berne are mentioned probably country and town birth places? - fake? But the date 2 Apr 03 is the date of issue for the passport (renew date is the 1 Apr 13) so we know Ben got this passport when he was on the island!
Well, funny coincidence that Professor Moriarty is also the super vilain in Sherlock Holmes, even though the first name is James.
I think that fits quite well to Ben. I mean, obviously, who would want to be named James Moriarty nowadays ?!
Kind of off topic but since someone brought up the coffin and Jeremy Bentham. And sorry if this was discussed last season but, Jeremy Bentham was an English Philosopher that invented the Panopticon Prison. This description is from wikipedia. Sounds familiar, no?
The Panopticon is a type of prison building designed by English philosopher Jeremy Bentham in the late eighteenth century. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell if they are being observed or not, thus conveying a "sentiment of an invisible omniscience." In his own words, Bentham described the Panopticon as "a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example."
Ok first of all it IS Locke's boss at the box company and Hurley's boss at the chicken joint that is filming when Hurley crashes. His name is Randy Nations. He's credited as being in the episode.
It's all right here: http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Randy
Secondly, I agree that the best candidate for the coffin at this point is Ben. He has a pre-existing medical condition that could easily kill him, and Jack would be sad about his death because Ben is his connection to the island. If he wanted to get back, which he does, Ben would be his best bet. And Kate would definitely not care about his death. I'm not sure though why the article says that loud noises were coming from the loft if he just died of health problems.
I think it's clear that Ben is the opponent of the boat people's boss. That boss might be the same boss of the girl Said killed. Ben obviously has to hide himself from them: he has fake id's and he lives on an unknown island. It could make sense that the opponents got Ben anyhow and killed him. That would explain who's in the coffin.
i think Sayid's lady is on the boat
First time comment
Dean Moriarty is a character in Jack Kerouac's book 'On the Road'. Since the book is somewhat autobiographic, every character is inspired by a real life character. In this case, Dean Moriarty is inspired by a revolutionary figure in the Beat Movement, Neal Cassady...Wondering if there is any tie-in here
DeskDiva - you seem to be right about the origin of the passport and name, but the date of birth is 03 Mar 62 or March 3, 1962. Europeans write dates in the order of day, month, year. After a quick internet translation search, I found that March begins with Mar in Italian, French, and German - the official languages of Switzerland.
The text is somewhat blurry to me, however. Perhaps someone could sharpen the image and verify...
Passport: Swiss
Name: Dean Moriarty
Birthdate: 3/1/62
Zurich and Berne are both mentioned on the passport, but I can't tell what for. One must be place of residence.
I think Jeremy Bentham is probably one of Ben's aliases.

I agree... it seems to be relatively well agreed that the name in the obit was something like "Jeremy Bentham". As Jack, Hurley, and Sayid seem to have kept their names post-island, it seems weird to me that Locke would be using an alias. With Ben, at least, it would make more sense.
But, I still think they want us to think it's someone we know but the twist is it's someone we will know, but don't yet.
whats up thebleach:
I agree it was so Jack would see it on T.V. But that guy was just standing there...it's not like he was linked up to the regular t.v. cameras....it was his personal video camera.
I think that guy was in the shot for a reason...but I could be wrong.
LostGAtor:
I think the whole point of that scene was that Jack would see it all on TV. Still may be his boss though.
Anyways:
My main question about the bunker is if it was established while Ben was with Dharma or since the purge. It also shows that Ben is one powerful mother (if this has been established since the purge).
They always show the briefcase with the different money and passports if they want you to know the character is a badass. Or Doc Brown.
Hey Sledge! First time posting on here....long time fan of the show. I have a request for my first post. I know I'm late on this, but I haven't seen anyone else on this site mention it....
In the 1st episode of Season 4 when Hugo goes on the high speed chase....right as he crashes into the car, there is a man recording the incident with a video camera. To me it kind of looked like Locke's old boss from the box company. Also, at the end of that scene, they make it a point to show part of the scene where Hugo being taken off in handcuffs through that guy's video screen...and on the screen it doesn't really seem like it's showing Hugo being taken off eventhough the camera is pointing at him. Can we get a screen shot of that?
And although it is a theory as all our ideas typically are I think that whoever is in the coffin remains to be seen. Last night's flash forward took place in Europe, and although Ben has multiple passports we don't know that he went back to the states which is where the coffin was. I think that it may be Locke (brought back to the States against his will). He is used to dissapointment so why stop with giving him what he wants, staying on the island. That may be why Jack was the only one that we saw visit him, we all know that Jack lives to fix things. And his remorse makes him want to go back to the island, but that is just another theory.
What I want to know is why does Sayid even end up working for Ben? What will he find on that boat besides Michael and Walt?
Why would Sayid rifle through all the passports and specifically choose the Swiss one?
I definitely think this episode points us in the direction of thinking it was (will be) Ben's coffin. Perhaps Sayid couldn't take following his orders anymore...
I wonder how many times Ben has left the island. Are all the passports and cash an indication he has done it frequently, or that he is preparing for it once the island is compromised and he has to go on the run, fighting the Mystery Corporation?
So Ben is the one in the coffin I now assume,
Jeremy Bentham could be one of his assumed names,
This should pretty much confirm that the picture of Ben from last week's episode was indeed somewhere off of the island.
Moriarty was the world's first super-villain in the literary world
Dharma Bums was written by Kerouac
Dean Moriarity...Kerouac's Road Buddy....
So Ben Reads Kerouac...cool, figured him for a hipster jazz poet guy....
That doesn't say RADSINKY does it?
