4x02: That's Not the Pilot

4x02 Pilot in CockpitIn Season 4 of LOST on ABC, "Confirmed Dead", Frank Lepidus is sinking airplane models in his fish tank when he catches a news update on the discovery of Flight 815. Becoming slightly agitated at the report, Lawnmower Man calls in to let the people know they got some facts wrong. That isn't Flight 815 pilot Seth Norris at the bottom of the Sunda Trench! Why? The body doesn't have a wedding ring, and Seth would never take off his wedding ring! Then we learn Frank was suppose to be piloting 815 on that fateful September day in 2004, in place of his buddy Seth. Don't upset the Lawnmower Man!

I checked, and yeah, the pilot does have a ring on in the very first episode. No sweet mustache, though.

Just found out that it is the guy from heroes! I never knew!

The picture of the pilot looks like the actor who plays the cop in heroes!

Could be cover-up, could be parallel timeline where Lapidus flew the plane instead or original pilot wasn't married. We need more clues.

Ha ha! My husband said the same thing when he saw Frank. "That's the Lawnmower Man!" lol.

What if it IS a parrallel universe, and Lawnmower Man was looking at his own dead body on the news? I think I just blew my own mind...

I don't know if getting particular about scenes shot four years ago will help with the ring vs no ring. We can always be left wondering if it's a continuity error.

Personally, I think the point of Lawnmower man insisting that the pilot was a fake was to answer the question of cover up vs parallel universe. It's a cover up.

I am wondering if we can see a pic of the pilot from the first episode when he gets destroyed by the monster... wonder if he has his wedding ring on.

yeah calling the # didn't really reveal much, but still it is a very interactive show.

Yes, I called the number... It is an Oceanic Crash hotline recording (different than the one from the show) which doesn't tell you much of anything.

BostonTom said:

Well, we know they both were pilots for Oceanic, and that the other guy was covering for the Lawnmower Man, who was supposed to be flying that plane that day. So I wouldnt think it would be a stretch that they were friends, and close enough friends that A) Lawnmower Man would be very interested in learning that his friend's body was found and B) he would immediately recognize that it wasnt really his body due to the lack of a wedding ring.

I thought it seemed strange to me - he knew almost immediatly that the pilot wasn't who they said he was, and he had clarity to immediatly notice whether or not he had a wedding ring on. then made some silly remark about how he married his sweetheart and would never have it on. seemed a little far-fetched. at first I thought he was going to say it wasn't the pilot because HE was. If it was something more distint (like an unusual tattoo) or something like that, maybe, but a ring missing?

He looks pretty good for having been eaten by a monster, all things considered...

The # does work.

Good point TXFlyboy, I think you are right.

TXFlyboy said:

It is the yoke of the airplane. The little thing that looks like the winding mechanism is actually the Push to Talk communication button the pilot uses to activate his headset microphone.

joeshow said:

has anyone called the number to see if its working or provides any information?

hypo11 said:

Lapedius (not Lapekis) IS Frank. The pilot's name was Sean Norris.

It's possible that is the radio mic.
