In 3x22, the season finale, "Through the Looking Glass", Penny Widmore returns (she's always good for a season finale). Of course, we saw her in Des's flashbacks, but not in real time. She is somehow making contact with "The Looking Glass", and just happens to be on her webcam when Charlie disables the jamming device. She tells Charlie that she doesn't know anything about Naomi or a boat. Oops.

too2strange:
You missed:
Claire v. Christian (Jack's father)
Hurley v. his Dad
I feel so stupid... Ben v. his Dad (forgot his name), Jack v. Christian; Locke v. Conman Sawyer; James Sawyer Ford v. His Dad who committed suicide; Kate v. real Dad she killed; Michael v. Walt; Who else am I missing?
Angus-Thanks for the clarification, I must have missed that bit.
BobBX542: There is that theory out there that there must be a prophecy that the leader of the "Others" must overcome their daddy issues by killing their father(like Ben and then Locke did). Walt had that special connection to the island and we were discussing whether or not he was eventually let go by the "Others" because he didn't have any reason to kill Michael. I would love it too if he killed that bastard. He has to be more despised by fans than anyone, even Ben.
One possibility is that the boat has been sent by Penny's Dad to keep Desmond away from his daughter . . .
Did I miss the discussion that talks about Walt killing Michael because I would totally love to know what that's about. I personally think that it would be awesome if Walt killed Michael the way that the bad guy kills the speaker in Scanners. I hate Michael so freaking much it's not even funny.
doubleon19: You are correct about Walt's daddy issues(I actually forgot about that), but not enough of an issue to kill Michael. I guess if they never ended up on the island Walt could have one day wanted to kill him. It would be neat if Walt came back and was more important than Ben or Locke because he DIDN'T have to kill his dad to overcome the issue, Anything could happen on this island!
angus Walt certainly did hve Daddy issues... that were somewhat resolved on the island.. Micheal gave up custody of his son, he was raised by another man and never made an attempt to contact him for whatever greater good Micheal thought his sacrifice would bring, Walt was pissed and wouldn't listen to him when they first arrived on the island....
What if the Dharma Initiative operated in other places than just the island? The food drops came from somewhere. Maybe they just can't find it ever since Ben "hid" it from the rest of the world. There must still be more to the island that we don't know yet, because they make it seem vulnerable, saying that it needs a security system, and that Ben is doing what he is doing for the island.
Maybe the reason that Naomi is there looking for Desmond has something to do with the military and not Penny. Just because she has the pic of Des and Penny doesn't mean anything other than she needs to know what Desmond looks like. Can anyone remind me of what Naomi said when she woke up?? I know she said Desmond's name, but she say anything about Penny sending her to find Desmond?? Because if she did, disregard everything I just wrote.
Well there's most likely some sort of connection with Widmore and another evil faction...they're just to integrated with things to not be involved with something big.
Could there be some connection between Penny, Naomi, Rousseau and the Dharma Initiative? They all seem to be broadcasting on the same frequency! I would not be surprised if the Widmore family was connected with one of the major organizations interested in the island.
Why would this women be still looking for Des. Come on move on lady. She knows her dad let him go on this sail boat for a reason, and if no one can find this island, how come he just happen to crash his boat into it?
Hey Sledge, can we get better resolution on the interior of penny's screen cap. Book shelve and control knobs?
great theory LOSTandfound!! Dharma trying to get back to the island to get Ben, of course!!! or whoever killed all their people..maybe Noami is from a future time and knew she would be killed at some point..thats why she made certain Jack knew how to phone home. I can't believe we have to wait until Feb 2008 uughhhh!!! I think I'd rather have repeats every 2 weeks!
I just listened to it again. You're right Halsfire. "Charlie just got us rescued" Accent frelled me up!
Dante- She told Claire that Charlie just got everybody rescued...not that he was saved. That's what's up with that...
I can't believe no onese mentioned when Charlie was killed Naomi told Claire that he was saved. What's up with that?
Yeah...Naomi is one of the bad guys. I think the folks at Dharma are looking for revenge for the purge that destroyed the research team. Thats why Ben is scared as hell for someone to find the island.
As for Jack's flash forward...here's how I see it. His future was shown at that point in current time. Now, based on his decisions in the future on the island will change his flash forward. But as of right now, thats how his future looks. I guess that is my hope at least so that he can still have a happy ending. But if there was way for someone to see my flash forward, a year in time from now...I'm sure it will look different tomorrow, based on what I do today. Ok, now I'm confusing myself!
I think she is bad, although I didn't notice the black clothes that are probably a clue to it as you mention. I did notice her make sure Jack knew how to work the phone in case something happened to her. She probably knew that if the Others found her they would know what she was up to and kill/abduct her. Knowing Jack saw her phone as the way off the island, she knew he'd make the call even if the Others abducted her and told Jack she was evil. Also, she was suspect over Julliet and whether she could trust her before she told Jack how to use the phone. Naomi shouldn't have been that worried about her. Naomi wasn't there to experience all the bad things she did before joining the Losties. If Naomi trusted Jack so much as to trust him with the phone, then she should have also been trusting in his faith in Julliet. Naoimi might not be totally evil, but she is definetly not there just to find Desmond. Penny had no idea about the ship or Naomi although Penny was the one that supposedly sent them. I think she and the ship were sent by Penny's dad Widmore.
So, is Naomi good or bad? Did anyone else notice Naomi wearing all black during the finale episode? I believe that is a 'clue' that she really does represent the bad guys.
Me too, but in order to "break into" the channel that would mean Charlie's code went directly to her.
It looked to me like Charlie accidentally broke into the signal that Penny was using and sort of Hijacked the conversation she was having.
I think Penny on the channel to the amaszon women is suspect.
That could be, but those buttons and what not on the left in the Penny caption look like some old style command buttons(can anyone enhance and read them?), she looks like she could be in a room build around the same time the Dharm Initiative was founded. And it was almost like Charlie directly called her with the code he entered.imo
Penny's team picked up the anomaly when Des blew up the hatch so they knew the general idea of where the island was. If she has been searching for him relentlessly all these years, she would most definately be at the computer waiting once she thought she knew where to look.
Halsfire-Penny's being the one that the answers boggled me too. I thought flipping the switch just shut down the blocker so that OUTGOING message could occur not incoming. I'm on the fence post whether she's good or not after reading some other people's comments on her. Maybe she was the Annie that Ben was friend with as a child? Or just a Widmore and therefore eveil too.
Sorry about all the typing errors. I'm pretty tired right now. The keyboard doesnt feel like cooperating with me right now. I blame Ben...
What I wnat to know is: Why dwas Penny sitting at her computer at just the right moment sending transmitions to th emiddle of the ocean blindly hoping someone would recieve it? It's a rather strange and almost impossible coincedence if you ask me...but still, what on this show isn't stange and statisticly impossible...
ESQuire, I didn't mean Jack had the power to go back..but maybe somehow they can go back...
Angus, I hope your right! I think I'm annoyed at the whole "flash forward" thing..I don't want to see them unhappy and broken, so I hope that it turns out better than that...I don't really want them rescued I guess..
Elise- Yeah, you're right Locke's course of events didn't work out per Jack making the call, but isn't it still to be seen if Desmond's vision is correct? Next season could have the helli coming to the island for them(Although prolly from the Hanso ship as some are guessing in the other blogs). I hope they can reverse Jack's call and such cause the flashforward thing sucked. I don't want to see Lost end that way. Maybe there will be two story lines in the future: the ones that get off the island and the ones that stay with Locke?
Jack does not seem to have the ability to go back in time, so I don't know where you're coming from, Elise.
anyone?
but the course of event didnt turn out how they were suppose to. can Jack go back in time, make a diff. decision, not tell kate he loves her, not sacrafice Jin, sayid and bernard, not send Charlie to his death, can these things be reversed????
SREHTO- Charlie probably closed the door so that he would fulfill Desmond's "vision" by drowning and thus ensure Claire would be rescued by the Helli.
SREHTO-You are right on two counts here, one, yes, Charlie could have gotten out and shut the door, but then we would have had to suffer through more Charlie episodes, thank god that's over. And Yes, Kate did look good for once. I know it's a desert island and what not, but couldn't they have found that makeup combination for her before??
LostAndProFound: I think *Maz* is on with the Walt analysis. He probably could communicate with Jacob as well. Makes sense since he and Locke both "Like the Island" from the get go. Also explains why Ben would "begrudgingly" let him go. They probably got all they could from him since I do believe that there is some sort of "Kill you Daddy" prophecy since Ben and Locke had to in order to get the "Others" respect as a leader or prophet. Walt had no daddy issues so he would have no reason to kill his dad and therefore could never become the leader of the others. Maybe Jacob talked to him because he was still a pure soul? Like Ben was when he was a child; before he went all Machiavelian and decided that the ends justify the means.
Also- The way Charlie shut the door in the Looking Glass... he could have stepped out side and the water would have held the door shut- I don't think he wanted to die if he didn't have to- So I don't understand why he stayed in the room? What a fool.
True- that whole line was weird to me... I stuck up for Sawyer because I love you? It didn't make any sense to me.
I still think its unlike Jack to tell Kate he loves her..
By the way- two awesome things about the finale: Hugo's line, "attention others" (was awesome) AND Kate is really hot off the island. Niiiiiice.
Wow- So many great ideas: I'm pretty sure that now we know for sure that Ben IS a good guy. If Ben had been lying, Jack wouldn't want to go back to the Island. I don't know how the Others and Losties could team up- because if the Losties realized they were wrong about the others- Jack, Kate (and god knows who else) would not have left the island. Unless they eventually get rescued against their will. So, I am thinking: They make contact with a "rescue" party, then realize the rescue is not really a rescue- and try to stay, but end up having to leave- Now Everyone is off the island- This will be all of next season (mostly off the island) then the 5th season will tell all about the island- then the 6th will finish everything up. Just my guess. Any ideas?
LostAndProFound: I think Jacob wants out of his cabin, knowing that Locke can hear and even see him Jacob "conjured" up Walt to get Locke up and out of the ditch to try to stop Jack, etc. I'll bet tyhat once Locke left the radio tower he headed back to Jacob's cabin to remove the circle of dust and free Jacob.
is it just me or does Jack look like Jacob with the beard?????????????????????????????????
Widmore and Hanso are not the same person. We've seen Widmore in Desmond's flashbacks and we've seen Hanso on the Hanso Foundation website, they definitely aren't the same guy. As far as Penny goes, I think she just wants to find Desmond, but they were kind of set up together by that Monk who knew the old woman who could see the future, so who knows what the plan is for the two of them.
Maz, good thought, maybe thats what Ben meant when he said that he's not happy about letting him go but that "they got more than they bargained for from walt". Perhaps they took him for different reasons, but they found out he could speak to Jacob. Maybe when Mrs Klugh threatened to put Walt in 'the room' again...the room was Jacob's shack. Just a thought...
LostAndProFound, I think Walt was special because he also could speak to Jacob. So the others wanted him around, just as much as Ben wanted him gone (for the same reason he wants Locke gone). But I guess he is not quite evil enough to kill a kid, so sending him away is the next best solution.
What gave it away for me that Naomi was not who she said she was, was when she claimed to be from Manchester. The people we saw at the end of season 2 were Portuguese.
Angus, here's what I am still wondering...what was Walt used for? The Others wanted him so badly, but then gave him up. Was he not what they thought? Did they get what they needed from him and then was free to go? I gotta think Walt is still gonna play a big part (no pun intended w/his new puberty stage) and thats why he was there for Locke to keep him going.
ESQuire, don't you think it's possible Ben was just pretending -- carrying on a one-sided conversation with nobody -- so Locke'd think that he (Ben) was actually hearing something from Jacob? Or, if we assume Ben COULD hear Jacob, then it seems that Jacob can only be heard by one person at a time -- Locke couldn't hear what Jacob said to Ben, and Ben couldn't hear what Jacob said to Locke. Maybe Jacob can only make himself heard by the person he's speaking directly to.
I think just because Penny's name is Widmore doesn't mean she's "in" with her father on any evil plans for the island.
Why is everyone down on Penny? Is there ANY indication that she's "evil" besides the fact that her dad's a jerk? I feel like it's obvious that there's two seperate teams: a Desmond search team and an island search team.
Shanimal: Penny is part of the Hanso/Widmore evil axis. Her name is Penny WIDMORE. (so she's filty rich)
Angus: Ben COULD hear Jacob when Jacob was talking to Ben. Remember when Ben rudely asked Jacob to be quiet because Ben couldn't hear Locke and Jacob at the same time (talking over each other)? But then Jacob spoke ONLY to Locke... and Ben was ticked at that.
I'll totally run with Sledge's idea. However, I always thought there was no Magnus Hanso. I thought Magnus = Alvar. If Widmore & A. Hanso are the same guy, and Magnus Hanso is the same guy as all of them, then he just started that L.E. Project thing, that life extension thing.
Wow. I just made that 100x more complicated than it needed to sound.
I have always had a bad vibe about Penny and don't trust that she is not part of the Hanso/Widemore evil axis. I think she is in the know for sure.
I think they'll team up too, but under the leadership of Locke. Naomi probably got the picture from Penny's dad, Widmore. Ben probably made the island "Lost" again so Widmore is trying to find it again. Any info Penny got from the team she hired to find Desmond could be bought for a higher price by Widmore. Ben probably has/had good intentions initially for keeping the island hidden from the corporate Dharma initiative after the purge, but he has had to go to drastic measures to keep it hidden since the purge. Maybe Ben could only really hear Jacob when his motives where purely for the Island's benefit? Obviously he can't hear Jacob anymore or else he wouldn't have had to ask Locke what Jacob had said to him back in the cabin. Ben could have lost his ability to hear Jacob ever since Locke crashed on the island. That could explain why everything has gone so wrong since Oceanic crashed....Ben could no longer get directions from Jacob and has had to make all the calls on his own since the crash. I'm new here so please forgive any incoherent babble.
Because now you wonder if what Ben says is BS or the truth. I'm sure there is more to be explained as to why the purge had to happen. Maybe there are other people that know of the island's power and are trying to find it...so if they do, they'll wipe out who is on it. I have a feeling the Others and Losties are gonna be banding up together next season.
Widmore would make sense, why does Ben make it sound like the people on the boat are going to kill everyone on the island? A last desperate attempt to stop them from leaving the island?
Hanso / Widmore...
Well at least we can see she's still actively looking for Desmond. This is evident by the screen/picture with some kind of island on it and the globe in the background.
I'm still baffled, can someone explain this: If Naomi and the ship weren't sent by Penny, how/why did Naomi have a picture of Desmond?
Why would she in talks with these folks anyway? Something screwy here.
