3x21: I Was Here Moments Ago

3x21: I Was Here Moments AgoAnd you're here now. Several users requested an investigation on this. In 3x21, "Greatest Hits", A sticker on Charlie's guitar seen as he puts it into the case reads "I Was Here Moments Ago". Is this fodder for the time travel fans? Does it have anything to do with an alternate reality, and Desmond's meeting with Charlie in a similar scene when he traveled back in time? Or is it just a sticker... a variation on the "I WAS HERE" phrase ("Kilroy was here").

Posted after final episode was aired:

I believe the sticker was a spoiler. Kilroy was here is a phrase taken from world war II. A highly appreciated maintenance officer had a habit to sign after a maintenance job he managed to fix with the phrase "Kilroy was here" … and left...everything is fixed now. Have no fear.
Charlie fixed the island jamming under water station to help the group escape unfortunately he had to die the process, hence "I was here a moment ago", and everything is fixed now. Now I have to leave.

Never fear I'd laugh at a question, SREHTO -- I didn't know what it was either for a long time until somebody finally wrote it all the way out in a post that was near another post where it was abbreviated, and the lightbulb went off for me. (I had been trying to make initials out of it -- Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof, etc., I knew who they were talking about, but I just couldn't figure out what the darned initials stood for! LOL!) Glad to help...

Maybe tahts why the current Charlie that we know on the island does not remember meeting Desi in the past. Maybe things have changed back to what they were before the weird ring lady showed up the first time.

DaddyBeast said:

Also notice that the note would be facing whoever was watching Charlie play, not facing Charlie. Therefore, if it is significant, it is meant for Des, not Charlie.

I think this is just another day with Charlie singing on the corner.

The name of the "DS" guy is Dexter Stratton.

mystarry: You're right. The scene where Charlie played "Wonderwall" on the street corner is pre-Driveshaft. You can find discussion of that subject (with evidence) here: Clickie

thanks for not laughing... TPTB... got it. One more lost question solved-

personally i think the sticker was an easter egg.. just saying that maybe that was Charlie's flashback BEFORE Desmond went back and changed it a little by showing up and realizeing whats going on. Maybe the flashbacks are what ORIGIONALLY happened. and that picture of Naomi, allegedly, watching charlie play doesnt do her justice. i looked at it and said no thats not her... but actually watching that character in motion as i rewatched the episode... she does look alot like Naomi. oh and the DS ring ( aka Driveshaft's Finland tour ring) really stands for Dexter Stratton. their great uncle.

Thank god someone finally asked. I have been wondering that forever but didnt want to sound like an idiot for asking/not knowing. My best guess is the people that broadcast? Doubtful

SREHTO said:

This may sound dumb.. but what or who is TPTB?

Madam P said:

Another point brought out in the recap episode last night was that TPTB definitely said Desmond was experiencing pre-cognition. My first thought about the whole Desmond thing was that it was pre-cognition; I never even considered he was time-travelling until I read here that a lot of people instantly assumed time-travel just as I instantly assumed precognition. I think what TPTB said last night puts Desmond more on the pre-cog side rather than time-travelling. So I think the sticker on Charlie's case is just a cigar... er... just a sticker.

this sounds like something i've seen before...twilight zone maybe? pirates of the carribean? I cant think of what it is but the whole "they are in a dead limbo state" type thing trying to finally die sounds familiar...6th sense too...I don't know my brain is starting to melt trying to think of whats going on here

Any chance that the "others" were members of the Black Rock and are some how trapped in an undead state until they are released from a hold- or until they satisfy some curse? This could explain why they don't appear to age- while Ben does. Maybe Jacob was their leader- and the others need to contact him- but Ben is the only one that can see or hear him? This would definately give them reason to follow Ben- even though they don't like him. Maybe they have to kill someone they care about to satisfy requirements to "go home"... maybe going home doesn't mean they get off the island- They just want to finally die. Sort of like the lord of the rings- the undead army? I don't know how this ties into the losties being there- or why they can't have children... but it's a guess?

Agreed SREHTO... I think that was alot of loaded information, presented in such a casual fashion. Makes you want to go back and really look at who/what has "appeared" to the survivors.

SREHTO said:

Yes- I thought it was weird that they said they were alive somewhere in the space/time continuium. That was a pretty obvious hint that time is not always what it seems in this show. Also- They flat out said that Jacks dad, and all of the other weird characters on the island were really smokie. (or Jacob- in my mind)

Cool cool cool.

I was agreeing with the time-travelling angle for a while, but now I think it's taking place in real time - it's just that they are telling a lot of the story out of order. We're all assuming that everything is happening in the past, and some of it does have to. But maybe some of it is in the future. Watching the recap last night, it says that there is a timeline in the real world for this, as evidenced by Penny tracking down Desmond, and the hatch explosion showing her where to look. Just a theory....

Did anyone notice in the recap last night these two things?

1. The producers stated that Walt's appearance to Shannon and Sayid was the smoke monster?.....ummmm, I think that was new..

2. The the island is somewhere in the space/time continuium(?)...intimating that there are time issues with the island.

Those 2 things stood out to me in the recap. Not sure if they have been previously discussed or if this is new information.

Charlie is a pretty small guy. I noticed that he put it on his middle finger too, but his hands are probably just way smaller than Liam's. I don't think there is anything to the size particularly.

And I think there is something to the guy's name too - Dexter something? - that will become important down the line.

Austruck said:

Charlie put the ring on his right hand, I think, so we can't see it in this photo. Plus, by this point in time, had Drive Shaft even been started and named? He wouldn't even have the ring yet, would he?

NinjaRisu said:

I'm pretty sure Liam said the name of the guy, but I can't remember it.

mystarry said:

Im not sure the memories are in order either. I dont see the DS (drive shaft) ring on his hand. Possibly its on the other one? However the DS ring seemed really important to Liam. He mentioned Drive Shaft was named after this man and his ring and passed down the family line to the males. Im curious who the man is that would be so important that drive shaft was named after his initials. I have to go back and watch it again but I thought the ring was on Liams pinky finger and seemed much smaller when he went to take it off, then Charlie takes it and its this large DS that he put on his middle finger. Either Liams hand was alot larger than Charlies or that pinkie ring got larger...

This really brings to light something that Cuse said in a VERY early podcast. Someone found a writing/script error on Oceanic Air tix (or something) stating a wrong date, and Cuse said something to the effect of, "We never said WHEN this is happening, just that we had a date for when the plane went down."

interesting.......

SREHTO said:

the sticker is a sign!!!!

SREHTO said:

As far as the sticker goes- Or this scene for that matter- This is definately the same scene playing out differently, over and over. Not that I'm convinced that it really is happening... I think that the show is really about doing the right thing, and dealing with your past. In the end (when everything is clear) I think that it will be obvious that we have been watching flashbacks- and flash forwards, and flashes of what COULD have been. Not that I've got this information from anyone- I just have a hard time believing that everything is happening WHEN we think it is. Maybe each flashback involves multiple characters from the island, because some of them are actually day dreams. (or visions)

This isn't really a theory, I don't have any at this point- just thoughts.

I say just a random sticker. There's no real reason for the producer to try and expand the whole Dez time travel thing any further. Out of all the things on this show that should have a 0% probability of happening why is so far fetched that Charlie could have been doing the same thing when it started to rain twice? He probably always sang on streets near places where a lot of people would be and sang the same 3 songs over and over to get money as a side job. Then *gasp* it starts raining durring the same song again...Musicians have random stickers on their stuff all the time. That's what they do. I don't see any signifigance in this one.
