In 3x19, "The Brig", The Others have relocated to an "old" place. It looks like some ancient ruins, complete with one intact doric-esque column. Another column can be seen nearby, and then a lot of large broken stones. This appears to be a little more dated than Dharma's hangouts. Looks like we might be getting back to the four toed statue we saw in Season 2. Were the people who built the statue the same people that built the ruins Cooper is tied to in "The Brig". Seems like a good possibility to me.

Just a guess, but could this place be the "temple" where Richard will be leading the Others? I don't have tivo or anything and I can't remember what the rest of the pillar area looked like.
I also havad been thinking that it had some sort of lost civilization/Greek thing going on. I thought maybe Circe's Island or some other Odyssean place.
go to Clickie it is quite amazing and freezeframes things...just scroll down and you will see the preview thing! :)
A sacrifice temple could make sense. Cooper was kind of sacrificed. We have heard Locke say "sacrifice that the Island demanded" a few times!
I can't help but wonder if the slaves on the Black Rock were used to dig up the ancient statues and columns. Then maybe that is what Kate and Sawyer were digging for (for the Others). Maybe there is a whole ruins of an ancient civilization underground on the island.
I'd say that is a Tuscan column. Tuscan is a simplified version of Doric and generally used in military architecture.
Pepsi-Maxx... you know, a lot of "those darn pagans" hang out here, so i would watch what you say.
I can't stop wondering what that four toed thing is...when I saw Lock's dad on that column I thought it looked like ruins.
Dude- he was SUCH a bastard to Sawyer. I can't believe how mean he was- i think he's in on something- or he's just really messed up.
I did catch some of it, there was a baby...a long haired Richard, and right after that one, a pale image of possibly Locke screaming, a ghost-like lady and what looks like a bed post or fence top with an emoticon :) on it. If someone can capture those it would be great.
I read a little while ago that they were suppossed to have a DeGroots centric episode, so maybe this is it.
I was very distracted during this episode (just by the whole James/Sawyer is gonna kill someone)...so thanks for this. I totally missed it.
I have read that next week will be a flashback to the island during the 70s. Hence why you see the VW vans. I also was able to make out a badge in the flash that said Roger Workman.
There were some quick flashes of various things on the previews of next weeks episode. Did anyone catch it? Maybe we can get some screen shots. They were almost too quick for even Tivo to catch but I did see a Namaste banner, some VW vans, & other things related to Dharma along with some faces I did not recognize.
PostScript,
Bonus, good Find. They were flying over the Pacific...
Seeeeee, this show is way too cool for dumb time travel.
The island isn't Atlantis, its Lemuria/Mu.
It is much more likely to be Lemuria than to be Atlantis. But certainly a lost mythological civilization is more than likely involved. In case anyone is interested, Lemuria is more than probably the location of the island -- for more info

I bet they're statues from the Lost City of Atlantis!
A big four-toed step I'd say!
I'm hoping my ancient Greek "tribe" theory plays out. This is a big step in that direction.
Looks more Ionic to me.
and what were they digging for on the other island?
A sacrifice temple, with the platform on the top maybe thats where they offer up sacrifises, those darn pagans!
