hey, i'm not a liguist, but i know that italian is very similar to spanish (i.e. grazi = gracias, dove = donde, etc.). i just didn't buy it that hurley didn't pick up on ANY part of her italian. Hurley speaks spanish, albeit a Mexican/English (mexican, right?) version of spanish, which i know can be pretty different.

I have no idea what the signifigance of that would be, but that's just the first thing that popped into my mind. Were they really sick, or did the Others give them something to make them appear sick and dying? She was pregnant at the time, so maybe the others wanted the rest of her party out of the way, so they could deal with her and her baby... and they staged a major disease.

I don't believe the island is capable of bringing back dead people, though. We've had too many die that would have come back.

Talking about the healing properties of the island, how Mikhail says that Naomi will recover from a punctured lung in a day yet he has sores all over his face (even before he 'died') why have these not healed? I mean Locke had a blast door tube stuck through his leg and he was walking the very next episode.

I think the writers are gonna' incorporate the tattoo into her storyline. Matthew Fox got his tatoo during his Party of Five days, and the writers put THAT into the storyline. Maybe they'll do the same with Naomi's. It seems that the writers do a lot of things on purpose on this show, while trying to make it look accidental. They COULD'VE covered it with makeup, or at least moved Hurley over a little bit to cover. Instead, it's prominently placed smack dab in the middle of the frame. Money says that it makes its way into the storyline.
Maybe she's "marked" just like Jack (or even Juliet).

If the island is so good at healing people, why wasn't Boone healed from his injuries? Ben seemed to recover pretty quickly from his surgery.

Returning to the question of the tatoo (the issue of rapid healing & cancer is something that could fill an article), it is intentional, for the simple reason that the PTB could have hidden it with make-up if they did not fit into their plans. My first impression was that the tatoo suggested that she came of some kind of "adventurous" or combat background. This would explain why she rambled deleriously in several different languages -- she's travelled in several different countries, perhaps as an intelligence agent. The tattoo itslef suggests a chain: perhaps this character is an adventurer who will not let herself be chained down?

They could most definitely get a picture of the baby without a vaginal ultrasound. I had one very early on, and didnt have to use the transvaginal wand. However, that equipment looked a little out of date to me.

Just a what if... and maybe this has been suggested already... health issues are directly related to the length of time you have been on the island? When you first get there, the island seems to correct whatever is wrong with you, but the longer you stay, the more it begins to reverse back, or you get worse than before. If Ben has been there the longest, then it might be that the cancer was able to develop. If the pregnant women had been there a long time, then maybe the island effects were messing up their bodies so badly they could not survive the pregnancy. Rosseau, Clair and now Sun have only been there a short time before giving birth. Maybe the problem takes longer to develop.

And, would that mean that eventually Locke would lose his ability to walk, even if he stays on the island?

I don't think they would show Sun's vag on ABC, but maybe if it was on Fox

One thing I want to mention about her possible recovery speed...Mikhail says it should take her 1 to 1 1/2 days to recover and he himself has supposedly risen from the dead! At the same time Ben has a tumor and wonders why he can't recover or even how he got it in the first place. Maybe the location on the island has something to do with this...maybe it's blood type or DNA or something. This whole healing island thing is getting complicated.
