In LOST 3x16, "One of Us", Juliet is convinced to stay on the island by Ben after she is told that her sister's cancer has returned. Ben promises that she will be healed if Juliet will stay on the island and help them find a solution to their fertility problem. As proof of Rachel's condition, Ben hands Juliet a medical report. I think I know what the problem is... Rachel isn't a woman with cancer, according to the report, she is a 187 lb MALE with heart problems! How smart is Juliet now?! I guess we can check this one off as another gaff by the props department. Pretty big slip considering how long the camera rests on that report. They do know this is LOST, right? Where we scrutinize and theorize over every little detail?

Sandman-Sorry, I wasn't attacking you, I was attacking the theory. I'm sorry if I came off as a little gruff, but that's my opinion, and hopefully the opinion of the producers. To take something so good like LOST, and then say, "Yeah, we totally want to steal a plot line from a different show and have one of the characters all of a sudden be a transvestite, and ruin our show." would be stupid. Oh, and by the way, I don't think anyone on here would appreciate you calling them stupid or retarded. You should watch what you type.
Hey!
YES... I am a cardiology RN, and here to tell you the medical record has NOTHING to do with a woman who has cancer... unless she is about to DIE! The cardiac rhythm strips in the prop are agonal ventricular rhythm, rate of 30's with SYT segment abnormalities in the lead tracing, probably from a dying myocardium in the last moments of life!
Way better to put in that slot would be some fetal monitor strips of a kid in distress, and a CT scan of a large tumor somewhere, or blood work with totally out-of-whack tumor markers or a WBC of 1 or something...
BAD prop day!
THIS is one of MANY huge medical mistakes that JJ and Damon and Carleton have made over the 3 seasons, to the point where I even WROTE Them AND OFFERED TO CONSULT FOR THE SHOW, to keep it at least believable.
LOST is not ER, I realize, but it has severly faltered in it's science AND in it's medical aspects. Yeah, I know, drama over accuracy, BUT... they could do better.
Damon, I'm STILL AVAILABLE...
Wow BobBX542 (or should I call you Mr. Lindelof) you're an angry person. I apologize for asking you to open your mind, I thought this is what the show does. Since you obviously have all the answers and we are all "retards", please oh magnificent one, in your infinite wisdom, give us stupid people all the mysteries of Lost. Oh never mind, we probably wouldn't understand them anyway.
Sandman-The tumor was a tumor. You don't try to impregnate a guy in the first place, and even if you did, you wouldn't do it on his spine. And why is it that hard to believe that Rachel was a guy?? Because its stupid. The LOST writers and producers might go out on a ledge every now and then, but not that, its just retarded, that's why.
Why is it so hard to accept? This is LOST. The mice were males and no females on the island can have babies.... So why is it so hard to believe Rachel was once Rick? Ben said he didn't have cancer, maybe the tumor was the first attempt at a male's conception?
Floyd-I know this is going to seem strange coming from me who actually argued against the sex change operation, but let me assure you that I do not think it is real, I just tried to make the effort to shoot that theory down so it doesn't spread and grow.
Sledge,
Ya gotta go back to this site not being so incredibly user friendly. ;)
Too many people are takinf sarcasm as actual suggestions to what's happening on the show and others are getting upset... COME ON People?! Did ya really think the sex change comment was for real?
If Sledge points out something the Producers tell us... that's what it is. Errors happen.
Have a nice day.
did anyone notice the "Sansoem Company" on the right?
ENOUGH, they have to fire the producer's nephew from the props department.
Yes, her name is there, but her name is on the folder not the document...I guess only time, and the next pod cast, will tell if it was a prop error, or another manipulation.
Incredible. Also, they report the person with AV block when the rhythm is stated as sinus....the ekg is an abberation, no av block with equal sinus and ventricular rhythms and i see only the possibility of escape rhythms in lead 2. did you catch the significance of rachel carlson's name, though?
of mice and men... haha
I think Rachel is a Chimera (Her Own Twin - Two Distinct DNA Profiles one of which could be male).
...and mythologically the sister of Cerebrus and Hydra. ;)
I guess the producers are wrong then. :)
I don't think the props department makes very many mistakes on Lost. I think every prop they use has a purpose. We don't always know what it is. We can't just chalk it up to a "prop error" whenever we see an inconsistancy. This is LOST afterall.

I stand corrected, the folder is labeled for Rachel. I didn't see that at first, so the gaff is even bigger than I thought.
No, Arnold was "impregnated" but the birth was a cesarian. We are talking about that waste of Celluloid Junior, right??
"she wouldn't have been able to give birth." Didn't Arnold do it?
If you were told that your sister has cancer, you wouldn't look at all of the details on the sheet to make sure it isn't a mistake?? Come on people. Serioulsy. Plus, even if Juliette's sister was actually her brother, there is no way that juliet could have gotten her pregnant, men don't have a wombs. But if we're going to go off of Juliette's expereince in getting male mice pregnant, then I will accept that maybe she could have gotten pregnant, but she wouldn't have been able to give birth.
Good theory BadRobot, but there have been a multitude of prop errors on LOST. No production is 100% error free, and many of these mistakes have been admitted by the producers. They have become more and more frequent as the series goes on, unfortunately. A few that stand out... there was some signage at St. Sebastians hospital that was for a hospital in Hawaii. This is because they actually filmed it in hawaii, and someone missed that, or didn't think it would be legible on camera. Jin's resume was an admitted prop error. The paper Paulo reads at the airport with the wrong date has been admitted to be a prop error. The list goes on and on.
come to think about it... the sex change... nah... not even plausible...
PROMAN... makes an excellent point.... ben's an scumbag. Though Deere nut makes a far fetched, but plausible point as well...
i definately dont think it was a prop error... i think everything seen on the show is 100% intentional. You have to put yourself in Juliet's shoes for the moment... youre stuck on some island in godknows where for 3 years... they wont let you go, everything about it is fishy and shady... and you just want to go home and see your sister who, you were just told, has a cancer relapse, and she will die before you can EVER see her again.. i wouldnt be looking at the small ( but under different circumstances huge) details...like... is this actually a medical chart of my sister, or some 180 lb dude??? you look straight to the details because info of that magnitude you trust ( though i dont know whod trust ben with his f***in creepy eyes) anybody with anything they told you... even .."this is your sister's chart". i wouldnt have noticed too...
I don't think was a prop error at all. I thought beforehand that Juliet's Sister was always actually a brother. (sex change) That was the reason it was such a big deal about her getting male lab rats pregnant!
Here is an odd thought, if they focused on it so long... perhaps it wasn't a prop error but a read out of Ben's vitals.
I think that juliets sister never had cancer again (relapse) besides the prop error or just perhaps thats all they had on the island who knows, they seem to have everything else on that island though.
When Ben said we would cure her if you stay. How does she know she needed curing again. That would explain why he doesnt want her to talk to her. The conversation would go Juliet: "Hi, I'm glad you came back from your relapse." Juleits sister:"huh? what are you talking about? I never had a relapse".
Well, that's the real reason it was so hard to get Rachel pregnant. She's a dude. She carries the weight well, though.
Well there ya go!
lmfao. thats silly
gees, i found that too. haha. Ben is a LIAR!!!!
