3x01: Hydra Station Logo

3x01: Hydra Station LogoJack, Kate, and Sawyer are being held in the remnants of the Hydra Station - apparently the station that was conducting zoological studies on species such as sharks, dolphins, and bears. This explains the Dharma logo we saw on the Shark earlier - though it should be noted the logo on the shark does not appear to be the Hydra logo.

Hey! This is my first day on this site. I just stumbled on it and was amazed! I catch more stuff on this show then the other ppl i know who watch, and i only caught about half the stuff on here.

I just wanted to say after reading a lot of your guys posts, i haven't noticed anyone mentioning that the seasons and the characters resemble literary works.

For instence, season one was quite obviously an answer to the question raised by Lord of the Flies: what would happen if a bunch of adults were stranded on and island instead of kids? But since then the writers have seemed to add in much more story line related to novels.

Desmond's story resembles the Odyssey. His girlfriend is Pennelopy, like Odysseus who's wife had the same name. Odysseus was also stranded on Calypso's island for 7 years when his boat crashed, and at this point in his story, he was alone when he got to that island. He was unable to leave and return to his wife, like Desmond is stuck on the island, and ends up back there when he tries to leave. The Hydra symbol, Scylla the water creater from the Odyssey, also adds to this since Jack, Kate and Sawyer are stuck at the Hydra, unable to return to the rest of the survivers.

The third story i've noticed is a link to Romeo and Juliet. the obvious conection is Juliet having that name at the Hydra. But the deeper conection is it seems Juliet and Jack have a sort of connection, which would be frowned upon since Jack is not one of the others, like Romeo and Juliet.

I'm sorry this post was so long, i just wondered if i'm the only one who's noticed any of this. Thanks for all the easter eggs and so, this site is really great!

The lines around the Dharma symbol are indeed from Korea, but it plays a part in Chinese religion (i forget which one) but the chinese made mirrors that looked exactly like the logo, just without the pic in the middle. they were made to ward off ghosts. i do not know how that ties in with lost, maybe to ward off the 'un-good'!

i dont know if this is significant or not, but on each hatch, there is a symbol surrounded by an octagon like thing right? Well the lines on each corner of the octagon bear a resemblance to korean numbers. For example, the group of lines on the top portion of the octagon look like the korean 4. idk maybe this is useless ???

Did anybody notice the Dharma logo on the water bottle Julliet brought Jack? Isn't it the same as the one on the shark?

Pandora said:

Oh, and thanks to sledge & Hansojr for clarifying the intercom sound... interesting...

Intimate, you have the wrong Greek mythology link; Scylla is different from Hydra. You are looking for this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lernaean_Hydra

(and Hydra was also the sibling of the monster Cerberus; not always portrayed with 6 heads, depending on the source, sometimes as much as 30)

did a little research into six headed monsters and found this on wiki

I added the second hydra symbol to the image (from the aquarium section with Jack and Juliet). As you can see, they are the same.

The speaker sound is just Jack's father saying "Let it go", similar to Sawyer hearing Duckett perhaps.

Yeah, I think this is an underwater station inasmuch as your nearest zoo is an underwater zoo. It has aquatic areas, but I don't think we're talking about a station out in the middle of the ocean or anything.

HansoJr said:

Pandora, I believe the Easter Egg was of Jack's dad saying, "Let it go, Jack. Let it go."

I'm thinking that the "underwater" hatch that everyone speculated about was supposed to be in the ocean (the cable that Sayid found in the sand leading out to sea)... Jack is in a hatch that is some kind of aquarium, isn't he.? I mean, if he were under the ocean, more water would have come in, AND they never - EVER would have been able to close the hatch door after they opened it.

We aren't entirely sure that the Hydra logo is the one seen from the cages, but if we had a screencap of the Dharma logo inside the station where Jack was being kept, we could know for sure.

Also the shark logo was done mainly as a joke/Easter Egg that wasn't really meant to be seen by the viewers, except that the final cut was lighter than they expected. That doesn't mean that the shark isn't from Hydra, just that the logo might not have been tweaked enough in design spec.

But mainly, I was wondering if we could have a look at the two (?different) Dharma symbols?

There is nothing to indicate that Sawyer and Kate are in the same place as Jack is, except that Juliet seems to be in both places.

Pandora, I also wanted to hear the Jack's audio from the intercom which sounded like his Dad.

BobBX542 said:

Is it possible that this is the place where on the map it said, "Beyond here there be dragons"?? I'm not sure if that's the direct quote from the map. Also, I would just like to say that I never got uber-involved with the whole Underwater hatch thing (I don't think) but congratulations are in order for everyone that called that.

We now have a Hydra Sation thanks Sledge Iwas wondering if the one Sawyer saw was the same as jack's and it is. In podcast Lindenoff had a hat with the hydra symbol on it.

Pandora said:

Thanks sledge for adding this! It was the cap I most wanted to see :)

I also wonder if that audio that Jack was talking into (intercom) held any audio Easter eggs...

But this was the main one, thanks :)

Looks like Hydra is both zoological AND underwater (two fan favorites)? Do others agree?

on the special features on season 2 disc, the creators did say they had only put the logo on the shark for fun, and do to lighting issues the logo appeared brighter than they intended. I assume they plan to eventually work it in, but... just saying.
