I believe that the producers said that the anomaly was what they were looking for, and the the "again" reference was the first time the anomaly made the island visible, on Sept. 22, 2004. I did a little hunting and found this, so Purple, your theory and mine are toasted.

Purple-I was thinking the same thing, but along the lines of Desmond's boat. I forget who it was that said it, but someone said that those types of boats, especially in that kind of race, would have tracking devices on them so that they could be found in case of an emergency, but hell, the baloon having a tracking device makes just as much sense.

Well, with regard to the guys in the bunker or whatever it was, saying we've found 'it' I have been wondering about this and I have a theory. I think this is the place to post it but I've posted it somewhere else too... I think Penny sent out the real Henry Gale in the balloon to find Desmond. The real Henry Gale later crashed on the island and died (not sure who would have buried him so nicely though...). When the balloon crashed, everything stopped working on it, including it's tracker system which would have enabled somebody to know where it was. When the explosion/key turning/big light event happened, the electromagnetic force of it switched on the balloon tracking system or triggered it in some way so it showed up on their system. Thus - 'we've found it'!

BobBX542 - Yeah, must've been that gigantic electromagnet.  As for your thoughts on the system normal issue - good point, but what else would it be picking up of that magnitude and nature?I didn't notice the sky changing colors, it seemed more of a blinding white to me.  Am I right?  Also, I think various people have hinted it already but the dissipation of the electromagnetic charge (if that really was what happened) would most likely have created this effect on the light.  Also, there was an odd sound.  I did a little research and found this article which I found interesting: clickie.  Note the last paragraph in reference to sound.My last thought is concerning Penny looking for Desmond.  It could be possible that the button being pushed every 108 minutes to dissipate the charge built up was also to prevent anyone from detecting the location of the island!  Possibly?
