2x23: Monitoring Station Terminal

2x23: Monitoring Station TerminalIn the final moments of "Live Together, Die Alone", the two inhabitants of the monitoring station are alerted to an electromagnetic anomaly. They turn to another terminal where the following text appears:

This is for Bob:There is more than one polar bear on the Island.  Sawyer killed one polar bear in Pilot II.  Later, another polar bear attacks Walt in the jungle and ends up being stabbed by Walt with the knife Locke gave Michael to throw down through the tree to Walt.  While Walt stabbed the polar bear, he didn't die, he just took off.Cuse said at ComiCon that more polar bears will appear next season.cheers*Des8

I love it when we get to the nitty gritty of the details! Nice one BobBX542, I shall throw that one out of my head. I'm glad about that because I would have kept wondering about it!

Quote from: BobBX542PLP-I knew my disgusting attention to detail would pay off. Now, unless this is another continuity error (I doubt it) look at the real Henry Gale's LicenceClickieIt says it expires in 03, so if it expired in 03, then he had to be on the Island way before flight 815 even left the ground. good find so he was there much earlier. I dont think it was a contunity error as producers wen to a lot of trouble to put THE NUMBERS  in there. :) :)

BUT maybe when our plane was crashing, the electromagnetism was also pulling in that balloon as well?! It was quite a fresh grave! So, it would have gone off on Sept 22nd and then again in the finale...?

BobBX542 said:

GJ, I think they said, "Did we miss it again?" But regardless of that, I was just clearing up something that I was looking into.

Geronimo Jackson said:

Quote from: BobBX542I believe that the producers said that the anomaly was what they were looking for, and the the "again" reference was the first time the anomaly made the island visible, on Sept. 22, 2004. I did a little hunting and found this, so Purple, your theory and mine are toasted.Yeah they amde that clear in fianle whe desmond saw the numebrs of the date he didn't hit the button  in time and he asked locke what date  did their plane crash? The Portugese guys say  they couldn't miss it again.

Or... it could be that it went off when the balloon first crashed...?

We missed it [glow=red,2,300]AGAIN[/glow]MAN #1: We didn't miss it![An alarm starts beeping and Man #1 goes to a computer screen.]MAN #2: So it's not a false alarm this time?!MAN #1: Just shut up and call!!I'm guessing that the magnetic anomaly was detected once before, but only briefly??? The "system failure" of Desmond's maybe.... :oYes, this is the assumption thus far (one of them anyway).

Fanx BobBX542, I was quite pleased with myself for thinking of that one! It just makes sense to me, I wonder if we'll ever find out the truth...?

BobBX542 said:

Purple-I was thinking the same thing, but along the lines of Desmond's boat. I forget who it was that said it, but someone said that those types of boats, especially in that kind of race, would have tracking devices on them so that they could be found in case of an emergency, but hell, the baloon having a tracking device makes just as much sense.

PurpleLostPrincess said:

Well, with regard to the guys in the bunker or whatever it was, saying we've found 'it' I have been wondering about this and I have a theory. I think this is the place to post it but I've posted it somewhere else too... I think Penny sent out the real Henry Gale in the balloon to find Desmond. The real Henry Gale later crashed on the island and died (not sure who would have buried him so nicely though...). When the balloon crashed, everything stopped working on it, including it's tracker system which would have enabled somebody to know where it was. When the explosion/key turning/big light event happened, the electromagnetic force of it switched on the balloon tracking system or triggered it in some way so it showed up on their system. Thus - 'we've found it'!

HurleysGirl said:

People like tlambert scare me.......I am such a computer know-nothing!  What is an STMP?

tlambert said:

550 is an SMTP error return code; specifically:

The three digits of the reply each have a special significance:

The first digit denotes whether the response is good, bad or
incomplete. An unsophisticated sender-SMTP will be able to
determine its next action (proceed as planned, redo, retrench,
etc.) by simply examining this first digit. A sender-SMTP that
wants to know approximately what kind of error occurred (e.g.,
mail system error, command syntax error) may examine the second
digit, reserving the third digit for the finestgradation of information.
...
5yz Permanent Negative Completion reply
x5z Mail system -- These replies indicate the status of
the receiver mail system vis-a-vis the requested
transfer or other mail system action.

Also: FWIW, SMTP came into being in November of 1981 (RFC 788). Also, messages are sent in RFC 822 format (August 18 1982).

Finally, 10.x.y.z is a Class A network, non-routable (i.e. only ever connected to the Internet through a NAT box, if then), and is for constructing large private networks.

Quote from: BobBX542LOFO-I didn't notice the sky changing colors eith er on my TV, or my friend's, but every one said it turned the sky purple (I saw it turn really bright white), so what am I going to do, argue??It is possible that the charge build up could have made the island visible briefly, but the producers said that it was briefly visible both tiems (when Desmond turned the key, and the date of the crash) which implies that it isn't visible anymore. I tend to agree because Desmond used the failsafe key and "...made it all go away."On my TV, and the ABC.COM online version it was a bright white wash out....  The only reference to purple was when Charlie said it.  I have been known to miss things though :)

Geronimo Jackson said:
My last thought is concerning Penny looking for Desmond.  It could be possible that the button being pushed every 108 minutes to dissipate the charge built up was also to prevent anyone from detecting the location of the island!  Possibly?Yes that is why The Portugese spotted the one other time when the pane crashed the magnetic analomy nott he island.Henry said God could not even find or see this island to Locke.White and violet lights and a loud sound as eveyone was covering their ears.

HurleysGirl said:

Claire pointed out that the sky turned purple......

LOFO said:

BobBX542 - Yeah, must've been that gigantic electromagnet.  As for your thoughts on the system normal issue - good point, but what else would it be picking up of that magnitude and nature?I didn't notice the sky changing colors, it seemed more of a blinding white to me.  Am I right?  Also, I think various people have hinted it already but the dissipation of the electromagnetic charge (if that really was what happened) would most likely have created this effect on the light.  Also, there was an odd sound.  I did a little research and found this article which I found interesting: clickie.  Note the last paragraph in reference to sound. My last thought is concerning Penny looking for Desmond.  It could be possible that the button being pushed every 108 minutes to dissipate the charge built up was also to prevent anyone from detecting the location of the island!  Possibly?

Maybe Penelope is looking for the Polar Beer than?:) "We found it";)On a side note - one more technical mistake - the 550 code of the SMTP is actually a failure code (all 5xx are failures in SMTP), so if the requested action was taken I think it should be 2xx (If i'm not wrong) rather than 550 :) It's just ofc that everybody has seen the delivery failures with 550...

Consider this. Unless I am wrong, this scene was first anyone has seen that supposedly takes place after the plane crash, but off-island. I guess there goes the dream theory, snowglobe theory, etc. The outside world still exists!
