Many people have written that perhaps Jack is the Portuguese-speaking man at the end of "Live Together, Die Alone" who mans the arctic station. This was refuted by both producer Jack Bender in an interview, and also writers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse in the official podcast. The former said that the language of Portuguese was chosen somewhat arbitrarily because both actors they found happened to know it; originally, Russian was the language they were considering. Given this, any Brazilian dialect may be insignificant to the storyline.

Why I think it's not the Jack CHARACTER (regardless of whether they used the same ACTOR for the two spots): the Jack character wouldn't sit around at an arctic station with insane patience. He's a fix it guy and would take things into his own hands. So, I'm concluding that the show used the one actor for both characters--a budget thing, perhaps, or something to catch our attention...
I think they're the same ACTOR (whether or not it is officially "Jack" in the storyline) because of this photo:

Key details:
- #1 by far: beard pattern is like uniqueness of snowflakes; the pattern of "light" spots and little patches MATCHES between photos
- supporting reasons: shape of eyelid on left when eyebrow is raised; curve of eyebrow; distance between eyebrows; shapes/locations of cheekbones; color of eye
Easy to explain:
- nose: easy for Hollywood to pad/bulk up (who has that smooth of a nose?!)
- accent: easy to dub
- "different actor"--hey, actors are credited in misleading ways; remember Samantha's dark haired "twin" in Bewitched? she was credited with a different, funny name
The only remaining issue: why they'd have the actor appear in two places.
He could be a clone, just like the whole Whickmund and Candle chat on another page...
..of course he's not!
The name of this actor is Len Cordova.
Here some photos..
The nose of the other actor is rounded outwardly, more plainly visible on the video. But it's a moot point anyway... did you see where the writers and producers have already said it's a different character, played by a different actor, not meant to portray him?
In what way are the eyes and nose different?
Take a look at the pattern of missing hair in both their beards. Jack has some areas of his beard where the hair does not grow in as thick. For example, look just below the right half of his bottom lip -- there is little-to-no hair there. The arctic man has a "splotch" in *exactly* the same place. The rest of the beard pattern is remarkably similar between the two faces as well.
