2x23: Desmond's Flashback has Oceanic (Motif?) Plate

2x23: Desmond's Flashback has Oceanic (Motif?) PlateIn "Live Together, Die Alone", we see Desmond at a cafe where he runs into Libby. As they discuss the sailboat race, a decorative plate can be seen on a shelf in the background over Desmond's shoulder. The plate resembles the Oceanic Airlines logo. This is similar to the decorative piece seen on a shelf in the Orientation Film in Gerald DeGroot's office, which also resembles the Oceanic Airlines logo (which turns out to be made of straw). Neither are a perfect match, but may represent an ongoing motiff.

Quote from: sledgewebYeah, the key word here is RESEMBLES. It's not THE LOGO, but a decorative plate RESEMBLING the logo. As mentioned in the original post, both the plate in the Desmond scene, and the object in the Orientation film, RESEMBLE the Oceanic logo.Actually, Sledge, I believe you are right about the logo--it's definitely there.  Having said that, the plate you see in the background of the Orientation Video for the Swan with the DeGroots is actually the Aztec (some say Mayan, they are similar but they are wrong--it's the Aztec calendar) Calendar.  I've posted this before, but I think it's important in that the Aztec Calendar is the most accurate timekeeping and calendar tool known to modern civilization and will cease to exist in 2012.cheers, and love your site and podcast!*Des8PS) I also love Carl from Sweden and Steve from Japan on your podcasts---they bust me up.

Why not just create a rating system in the investigation page:1 = Completely an easter egg2 = Easter egg but could have some significants3 = Both elements of an easter egg and a clue4 = High likelihood it's a clue5 = Major obvious clue

I understand what you are saying. There are fun ones and big clue ones. They could be seperate, but I have a hard enough time finding everything, I might get lost.Congrats on reshirtness.

Bob, it's ok to disagree on things here, it's no way a personal attack on sledge & his great work on this site, and I doubt he feels that way either.  Not everyone is going to agree that all the investigations have the same significance, and this doesn't necessarily qualify as "freaking out"; one of the reasons sledge has a comments section is so that people can discuss these opinions, not just pat one another on the back gratuitously.

Bob...thanks for your post you really cleared things up for me...It is people like you that really help. I will spend even more time looking at circles and octagons and such to get your level of appreciation...Peace or Nomaste...

There are certain themes, patterns, numbers, shapes, etc. that repeat throughout the show - these are mostly just easter eggs. Careful viewers will notice things like OCTAGONS, STUFFED BEARS/RABBITS, and OCEANIC-LIKE PATTERNS pop up in the background. The point of the INVESTIGATIONS section is to note the less obvious hints, clues, character connections, and EASTER EGGS. Said another way, it isn't an accident that the prop person places an object in the Orientation Film or Episode 23 that strongly resembles the Oceanic logo - it also doesn't have a lot of significance either, it's just a hidden easter egg. I don't know why it has turned into such a big deal...

And the soccer team.

Many of these appear to be fun stuff for us interneters. I think the numbers on the police car was just thrown in for us to notice. It is fun stuff to look for and to discuss.

As mentioned in the original post, both the plate in the Desmond scene, and the object in the Orientation film, RESEMBLE the Oceanic logo.I only made the comparison shots because I've seen that people were starting to say this was evidence that Oceanic was directly tied in to the DeGroots (they may be, but probably not from that) and possibly even somehow tied to Libby because she was in that coffee shop, which I think is a little far fetched (again, she might be tied to Oceanic, but not through that).  Many people take Easter Egg to mean a small hidden clue, but I think I get what Sledge is saying... that it's just a fun motiff that is repeated, a little wink, and no more than that.

DaBills said:

Sorry...

I resemble Andre Agassi but it is not relevant to who I am or my life.

If we started looking at everything that resembles something else we will end up doing stupid stuff like...comparing the guy at the very end to Jack...

Oh wait that happened already...

Looking is good, searching is better...making a jump just for a resembles is just silly...

IMHO

It's Pala Ferry, which we already knew from the PEARL Orientation video. It's there before and after the light, but is only seen after the light (that particular camera angle is only used after the light).

Geronimo Jackson said:

Sledge can we other than screen caps of Kate's dad, kelvin and guy training Syaid (kelvin)get a screen cap of the sign that says------- ferry on the dock? before and after the explosion?

I think it's just a plate in a pottery store.  The colors are all wrong for the Oceanic logo. The high res shot of the Degroot office "logo" was shown to be a plate or decorative item; doesn't look like logo under closeup.

Yes just what i remember Hurley saying you go dave or something like that when he was letting him go coincidence? I dont think so...

catchit said:

Did anyone catch that Libbys dead husbands name was DAVID?  Could this be the same David or "DAVE" that Hurley came to know as his imaginary friend from the Psyc. place...? Hmmmmmmmm

sledgeweb said:

I don't think there is much significance to it - just a nice little easter egg. Same thing with the "Oceanic Logo" in the Orientation video.

Jugdish said:

I saw nothing real clear on it. It would just show that everything is connected.

DaBills said:

unless you can focus this image I have to call Shenanigans on this one.
